Do you write down naughty dreams?

I had a really sexually weird/disturbing dream last night that I would not want anyone to know about ever, and I didn't write it down and I sort of regret not doing it. I try to keep my dream journal G rated, or at the very least PG-13 for fear of a relative / family member using my computer and reading it. How do you deal with this?

Get over it, everybody has very wierd dreams. If anyone ever believes you have a G rated subconscious that would be amazing! This is a form of repression. Your subconscious is trying to communicate to you and you are censoring it. Use a password. Write in a book. It is nobody else's business so stop worrying about other people and what they think about you. The dreams aren't literal anyway, even sexual dreams are symbolic. I would like to hear this dream! Sounds interesting. I write my bizarre sexual dreams down even though my wife might read them. But sometimes I talk about them with her also. You don't have anything to hide or feel ashamed about, if someone reads it who isn't supposed to then it is them who is stained. Be innocent! Use a password, but open up to yourself and your subconscious.
Sex with dream characters. You know all dream characters represent some aspect of yourself, don't you? And sex usually means two parts of yourself uniting and integrating.

      i agree with dannon.
dreams and dreams man, so whatever is in there is out of your control. where it gets sticky is when you are lucid and you do have control. i write everything down in the hopes that some great great grandson will laugh his ass off reading it one day. but to each his own. if it makes you uncomfortable then dont do it, but you really have nothing to worry about.

... If I didn't my DJ would be pretty empty!!!

I always write EVERYTHING in my paper journal beside the bed, though occasionally I do censor them a bit before posting here. At least that way I:m being totally honest with myself, even if I:m lying a bit to the community here. And besides, why disappoint your reading audience?

When I have those dreams, I allways write '' something bad happened. '' I don't write them with full details. I like to keep these stuff private. I can remember every thing that happened through reading the DJ itself.

Heh yeah... code words and phrases nobody else will understand... I do that too. Just in case somebody opens up the journal one day and starts reading. Eventually we all might invent our own secret languages that need to be decoded, like DaVinci with his backward writing that nobody could read till they looked at it in a mirror!

Banhurts dream journal program allows you to password your journal.
Not that anyone would find my journal anyways.

I write them down in my hand-written journal but use codes for certain words, just in case someone decides to take a look.

When I type them up in my DJ I type them out fully, but I wrap them in spoiler tags if they're really graphic. I also have a 'rated R' warning on the front.

I have had some really freakin' weird dreams (not just about sex) and they do embarrass me because I wouldn't normally think of the ideas in them. I do still try to treat them like other dreams because what's the use of burying them? It happened, get over it. *grin* Everyone has weird dreams because humans? We are weird.

      That's my opinion.

I understand the OP's concerns with writing down sensitive content of dreams. The views expressed in reply do hold truth in that censoring yourself can be the beginning of a bad habit, so if you can write it SOMEhow, whether on a piece of paper or in an offline dream journal you KNOW you can keep from prying eyes, you should be able to avoid the censorship issue, and still get those things down, so your subconscious has communicated with your conscious.

I imagine this is a pretty important thing, but if I were in that situation, I completely understand where the difficulty can come from even from just writing it down on a paper you'd burn or destroy later. I'm gonna say that my advice is to write down even the naughty dreams, though if you're uncomfortable going over sensitive content, use vague terms, or just keep the dream in something other than your online dream journal - I keep a real notebook as well as my DV DJ, so I can separate that sensitive information from the world, yet have it still available to me if it turns out to be a dream sign or of some significance.

I have 4 kids and no real bedroom. I have a curtain across a wall to separate my "room" from the livingroom. I sleep on a couch. Even though I try to keep people out of my space (beneath the curtain is the living room couch and small bookcase on wheels which I use as a door to keep the dogs out). But my kids always find their way back here a few times a day.
I'd rather they didn't find my journal and read it. So I use abbreviations. And for my personal diary, I don't sign my name but my "symbol"... that way I can always say it's a book idea.

Nuaghty dreams are so awesome.. who cares if someone sees it? though you'd still better go your way to hide it from the world.

Well, not to get too far removed from the original purpose of the thread, suppose someone had a graphic dream about you (or any other person besides themself) and posted it on a oft-frequented online forum?

On a black-and-white scale, it seems like a graphic dream about another person shouldn't actually affect that one person, but once it's posted up online, it can be an odd thing to discover that someone had a graphic dream about you, and went into detail to tell the world what it was like. It depends on the person, and is more about the respect of the other person and the privacy of the owner than anything else.

That's why a person should care if someone sees a naughty dream they had - if it involves someone else, you never know what could happen.... Other than that, then it would just be a matter of the dreamer's discretion. Just another viewpoint to see the situation from.

      Happens.

I think in three years or so of religiously keeping a DJ I've only avoided writing down two dreams, or fragments, for the reasons you state. I share your concerns and I think we both need to find ways of sharing dreams privately without being worried about RL people finding out. Dream sharing has to be done in a safe place.

I keep my identity secret, but my son now knows it and I too am worried. I'm considering changing id now. I never name people in my DJ either. Always "son", "former boss", people's initials etc.

Ignoring people telling you what their personal beliefs about dreams are , why not just make up a little code system for yourself? Instead "we had sex" something like, "I kept wondering ________" where the _____ is something related to the dream, and "I kept wondering" means 'we had sex' just to throw off anyone nosy?

I deal with my odd/sexual dreams by simply writing them down on my computer, I have used encryption software before but as previously posted Banhurts dream journal is a great tool. It is easy to password protect your dreams so that only you can view them. I also censor out a bit before I post them on my DJ because although open I know a few members on here personally who I, sorry guys, would not want to read my sexual endeavors.

I do recommend as well that you do keep an uncensored and complete DJ. It may not be important to you yet but a little down the road you will most likely forget the key words or hints and part of the dream. Or even begin to subconsciously censor your dreams as soon as you wake up and not even remember you dreamed it.

I'll expand what I said a little more since I feel like telling this. I previously posted as a different username. and was at the time dating then engaged to a girl. I felt that my dreams were a gift to myself and worth discussing with other people if i so felt. Well I posted under a few explicit/sexual topics on here and what do you know she reads it lol. Well it led to a long and drawn out fight about what I dream about. Now, she is my ex-fiance lol and I am much better off but I did learn a valuable lesson,
when with someone:do not post your naughty dreams online.
When single: feel free its fun to talk about.

create a private and/or anonymous blog on livejournal or something.
the news reports on the radio said it was getting worse
as the ocean air fanned the flames
but i couldn't think of anywhere i would have rather been
to watch it all burn away

I think the best way... is to write down on your REAL physical journal... even if you can transport it via USB.. it still isn't "REAL" besides what if virus hijacks your PC? I know some of you even took that into consideration... But who would look in your real DJ? course unless you show them.

      Basically:

If you absolutely don't want ANYONE to know about it, ever, then just don't write it down OR write it down in a code that only you understand (ex. of what I wrote above). A good way to assess that is, imagine that you wrote the dream down, and your family (parents, grandparents, cousins, etc.) were mailed a copy, if someone photocopied it and posted it all over your school hallways, showed it to your boss and coworkers, etc.

If this isn't an issue for you, then by all means write it down.

If it IS an issue, then use some common sense. Change or leave out names, use keywords instead of detailing it, etc. etc. If it's something that bad, though, then don't leave it around for someone to dig through and pick up or for someone to somehow access it on your computer- cops, friends, family members, 'hackers', etc.

Personally, I find it a little sad how narrow-minded the people you live with must be, if you feel you have to censor yourself for their sake. Me, I'd just say fuck 'em. If they read something they wish they could unread, it's their own damn fault for violating your privacy in the first place.

If you REALLY don't want people to see what you're writing, you could make your own secret alphabet - something that no one will ever be able to decipher, unless you're dumb enough to leave a legend lying around in plain sight - and write any "dirty" words or phrases in said alphabet. That way you won't have to leave things out...they'll still be there, just in code.

STILL, I say you really shouldn't HAVE to code things in the first place. They're dreams. They don't necessarily indicate depraved "hidden desires", thus you shouldn't have to explain yourself to anyone.
