The feeling: I had the same thing the first (and the only) time I became lucid. People say it's an amazing feeling, and I'd have to agree with them. It wasn't painful, like you said, but it was pleasant for me. Felt green and yellow, if that makes any sense. Electrifying. But I definitely felt something I never had before. Whether or not that's common I cannot say.
