      Specific Reason?

What I'm asking here is... Is there any specific reason any of you started lucid dreaming? Not just thinking of the god powers like "OH MY GAWD I CAN DESTROY THE EARTH WITH GIANT FLAMING MUTANT CATS AND EVIL CABBAGE SPROUTS THAT LOOK LIKE CHUCK NORRIS.", but was there just one specific thing out of all the possibilities you just HAD to do when you first learned about lucid dreaming? For example, when you first started to get into LD's, were you like "YEESSSS I CAN USE LUCID DREAMS TO HAVE SEX WITH ___________!!! AWWWWWW YEEAAAAAAAA!"

That last part was exaggerated, but you get my point. There wasn't really a specific reason for me, honestly, but do any of you have one?
      Oof.

Adventure in a land that is all my own. Friends that don't even exist in other people's universe.

@ Zoth. I think it is different because it isn't what motivates you, but what originally got you motivated.

Generally i got into lucid dreaming to experience stuff that is not possible or way too hard to do in waking life, as well as adventuring.
But if you ask about the very first thing that i was thinking about when setting goals then, hmmm, i guess that would be transformation ability, being something else than just human is amazing, so far i have done full transformation only once though, but i am getting there.

For me it was an escape. I really got into it when my longest relationship was falling apart and I was finishing highschool. I have always had them but hadn't delved into it deeply until then. I just wanted a world where I was in control of my surroundings moreso than waking life.

The reason why I became interested in lucid dreaming was the ability of telekinesis. That, and to practise skateboarding. But since I've recently had my first lucid dream I didn't get to work on these interests. What was the reason to develop an interest in lucid dreaming for you? I believe you have to have a reason why you got interested in lucid dreaming?

Well the best reason I can think of is that before I joined this site, I came here a few times to read random dream journal entries that were lucid dreams. I've really always been fascinated with dreams ever since I was a child, and reading about other people's amazing experiences in their lucid dreams made me want to try it, especially because so many people could control the dream entirely. I found them all really interesting, so it's pretty much because of a few people on DreamViews that I started. After I had my first LD, I was really excited and kept thinking to myself things like "I was just inside my mind!" ...Things like that.
      Oof.

This so much. Basically it's my escape from reality where I can do anything I like. It doesn't get much better than that.

I got into lucid dreaming because the positive effect it has on my waking reality. I now have a much more positive out look on life it seems the possibilities are endless. Lucid dreaming is not just some recreational thing I do in my slumber, it's a way of life for me. Peace.

When you are in a higher state of consciousness, it not only creates the life of whatever you want, but also on whom ever you want". -LifeBlissFoundation

Lucid dreaming got into me at such an early age I have no idea when/why I started.
Nobody in my family knew this was even possible, so I was quiet about the subject.
That was over 40 years ago. No internet, no forums
      I am 48 now.
When I joined, I thought this forum was for people who already had the skill.
I did not even know it could be learned from another.
We should have a topic that asks which type of dreamer, members are ?
      Natural, or self taught.
Might start one tomorrow, when I have more time.

When I was maybe 18 or 19 years old, I told my dad how much I enjoyed flying dreams, and that's when he told me that he had heard about this thing called Lucid Dreaming, and that I could learn to have more flying dreams. That was about 20 years ago. And I learned to lucid dream then from Stephen LaBerge's book and others, and loved it.

      I don't know why I stopped.

I know why I returned to the hobby though, and why I am on DreamViews. Now it's not about flying any more. Basically I had self esteem issues due to a bad experience on another forum, not dream related, and that's when I remembered about lucid dreaming and how empowering it felt. Plus I needed a new online community to belong to, and I liked what I saw here. In the meantime I have only been successfully lucid once since coming here, but I consider this hobby a great success already because it has made me more self aware and I have been doing all kinds of positive self improvements as part of my effort to get lucid. Definitely worth the effort.

Baisically what BrandonBoss and Checker666 said.

The main reason I wanted to lucid dream was because you could do things you can't in real life. Like visit places or characters in your favorite books or shows, fly, use elemental powers, explore worlds, have adventures, have dream friends, etc.

If you don't mind my asking, what'd you transform into?

Ah cool! Transformation is something I definitely want to do, there are so many things you can change into. A cat, tiger, dragon, and bird are some on my to-do list.
