Question Why do YOU lucid dream?

I was wondering what motivates people on here to have lucid dreams.

I know that many of you do it out of fun or to overcome nightmares, but how does it affect you as an individual? Does it make you a better person in any way? Has it changed bad habits or behaviors? Has it helped with depression?

Why do you think to yourself, I like/would like to lucid dream?
And finally, do you ever feel like you don't want to lucid dream and that it is not worth the trouble?

It would be very interesting to hear answers from people.

As for me, I want to lucid dream to improve my memory, social skills, and get more out of my life!

I havent had many vivied experiences, but because ive never really had one of this lifelike vivid dreams or done anything icredible like flying, im still motivated to lucid dreaming because of the fun i can have. Im guessing as you get experience and fly ect ect you want to begin to explore your mind.

as for not wanting to lucid dream, i wake up early and almost never do a DJ which hinders my progress :0

Ah...thanks for replying! Yeah I agree with you that lucid dreaming is a lot about the fun you can have when you are not busy...I think that keeping a DJ is pretty important I hope I can stay committed to keeping one. And you mentioned getting experience from dreams. I never thought of that...in a way doesn't that mean that you can double your experience through lucid dreams, or at least increase it, resulting in a more intelligent lifestyle? So gaining experience be a good reason to LD?

Exactly, its a very nice way to explore yourself, because everything inside your dreams is created by your subcouncious. I think youll find when you start getting bored of doing the incredible and impossible (funny huh) youll start to explore and learn. Maybe "meet" your dream guide or subcouncious

For me LDing is deeply tied into spiritual exploration. I do enjoy the normal stuff like having super powers, but I care most about learning and growing. It is a long story, but rest assured I have had many spiritual events happen during dream time.

I like to lucid dream because the dreamworld is such an amazing place. It is bound by no rules, and is unpredictable. Doing things like flying and using superpowers creates a feeling you can' find anywhere else. It is long journey, and as Suck4Luck said, when you find yourself wondering what other possibilities to do while lucid dreaming. Once you increase your awareness in the dream, and it becomes as vivid as reality, there's no limit what you can experience.

      Because why not?
Everyday you sleep anyway, and have regular dreams, so why not add fun into it?

Freedom, opportunity, endless possibilities, adventure, exploration, self/spiritual growth, experiencing unfulfilled desires. The list goes on and on.
The most evident question is why not lucid dream?

Because it's an alternate reality where you can do anything without consequences, how cool is that?

      I honestly believe that..
Lucid dreaming is kind of hinting to us what the afterlife COULD be like or that there is an afterlife because dreams... they just.. don't add up. I think there is more to them that meets the eye. let's face it.. every night, you go to a place where you are sometimes aware that you are this place and you are free to cause havoc, roam and do anything your heart desires. I'm probably talking a load of s*** but it's a nice feeling to know that maybe something beyond our view is awaiting us

I have 8 hours everyday that would otherwise just be spent in darkness and not remembered but with lucid dreaming I can spend that time doing things plus feel great in the morning. I could BS you by saying that I use it for lots of self productive reasons but really I just like to have lots of dream sex and fly

Why? I don't know. It just happens sometimes. I can't say I've ever really tried to do it. I had one last night that I didn't know was a dream at all. I woke up and went to the kitchen (FA) and my wife was cooking a big spread of food. She said we were having a guest over for dinner. When the dinner guest arrived, it was Estelle Getty. Nothing seemed out of place until I realized that she's dead, not to mention the fact that there was no way she would have known us anyway. At that point I realized it was a dream but I just went with the flow because the food was good and the dinner conversation was hilarious.

At first I wanted to lucid dream to just have fun, fly, and all that jazz. But at this point I just find it interesting to explore my mind.

It's a good question.. it has become such a habit that I just do it. Sometimes its aimless, and other times its not.
The answer to your question is exploration; whether it be exploring my dream world, talking with my spirit guide about life, trying to learn a new set of skills, or experimenting with consciousness.

The sailor does not control the sea, nor does the lucid dreamer control the dream. Like a sailor, lucid dreamers manipulate or direct themselves in the larger expanse of dreaming; however, they do not control it. Lucid dreaming appears to be a co-created experience. ~Robert Waggoner

To go out into space, part of me likes the idea that the afterlife is a dream like realm. Dreaming pretty much is like the ultimate "sandbox" in terms of any place, any situation, any time, anyone. So its can give a sense of adventure depending on the dreams you get (mine for sure), which has been far more entertainning than games/media......

Pretty much magic holodeck that lots of people have no idea how to use, and only get to have random stuff that are usually just reflections of feelings/daily events. I am certain the reason I fail at gainning lucidity is due to the fact that I don't sleep on a schedule. I can do wbtb and have had long multiple dream recalls in one night (like 5 seperate dreams)..... but I just haven't pushed myself enough to this. Still, since coming here, I have had my 2 lucids, second being an actual set of events where i just couldn't remember how i'd gotten to be sittin in that part of the room, looking at the door, and how I jumped up and slammed the door shut before a few seconds later massive pounding game to it, shaking it and the wall. It stopped and I just.... thought to myself that I was dreaming. I opened to door to see nothing but white and woke up.

There are people i'd like to go talk to that I no longer can, and i'd like to ask them things that I can later come confirm in the waking world.... works out..... who knows where I will be able to go from there, after all, the more you know about the capabilities of the machine, and what it is the more you can use to your liking.

i do it because it gives me the power to be the director of the scene that i find myself to be in and from then on its up to me what happens next and all of a sudden an ordinary or even an unpleasant situation turns to something exciting and fun.

I am deeply fascinated by space, so it's kind of my dream (Haha) to explore it in a lucid dream. Other that that, it's simply exciting exploring the powers of the brain and doing something amazing that most people don't know is possible (Which is a shame really).

I haven't had many lucid dreams, and none of them I have had so far has been centered around myself trying to do something very special (I'm in that early stage where, when you have a lucid dream, you go, "Oh, look at me, I'm flying! . . . What was I doing again? Oh yes, I must make it to the grand Hippo Doctor before it reaches 70:123 PM. . . ." Well, either that, or the dream itself doesn't last long enough for me to carry out my lucid dream intention.

The initial reason why I wanted to become an active lucid dreamer was for something that I now have a lot of doubt in: shared lucid dreaming. I wondered if it was possible for me to contact an old friend via the dreamworld, and that was originally my only goal. After a few months, though, my primary goal became to expand my imagination and gain ideas from my subconscious mind on how to write out certain scenes in novels, which is more possible than shared lucid dreaming (let's be serious: even if you believe such a thing might exist, it has yet to be proven--as far as I know, anyway). Of course, that doesn't mean that I don't enjoy the freedom and all around "funness" of lucidity!

I lucid dream for every reason. First, to have great fun in unbelievable ways, when I get over controlling that well I will move on to deeper things, such as learning who I really am, improving memory, overcoming fears. I am even up for the negative experiences, though I have not heard of any. I also do it to improve awareness in general, which is a very helpful skill.

Overall, why I lucid dream is not the question, but rather why not?
