      Headaches in dream while lucid.

      Hey dreamers

Every time I become lucid and try to think about where I am in relation to the real world I will get a horrible headache in the dream. For example last night I was in a dream and I was trying to figure out what the day was. I told myself in the dream that today was November 15 2010. My dream however when I tried to concentrate on this fact wanted to believe that it was August 15 for some reason. When I concentrated harder about where I was sleeping, what I had done yesterday, I get a realy bad headache.

This has happened before. What should I do? Should I try to fight the headaches and continue concentrating on the outside world, or should I just not fight against it and let my dream take over?

Also does anyone else experience this?

p.s. - I am on celexa, which might have something to do with it.

Unfortunately I have no idea why you get headaches.
I have never experienced any real pain in my dreams, except some sort of discomfort.
On one occasion I felt great discomfort when trying to make a logic deduction on some programming problem, which simply didn't work.
The harder I tried the more uncomfortable it got, so I decided to just drop it.

May I ask why you are trying to concentrate on the real world though?
I do it unconsciously sometimes, but it's mostly just accessing memories from my waking life, for example checking if my dream is presenting me with "false memories" or if I have set myself any goals for the next lucid dream.
However, I never try to really think about my waking life, partially because I feel it could cause me to wake up and partially because I think it would influence the experience of the dream I'm having.
Is there any special reason you are trying to do this?

      Cheers,
      Hyu
      Dreams are simple.
It's the painfully simple things the human mind cannot comprehend.
After all your mind is trained to understand the complexity of the waking world,
not the simplicity of the dream world.

Don't concentrate too much on the outside world. After all, knowing the date doesn't affect your dreams (but if you think about your physical body you might wake up) or the content of them. All you have to do is remember your dream goals or whatever else you wanted to accomplish within the dream. The day will still be the same when you wake up.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

The problem is that when I don't think about the outside world, I tend to forget that I am in a dream and I fade back into not being lucid.

Maybe you just have to work on being more conscious in your dreams - if you're "awake" enough, it won't be as difficult to forget the fact that you're dreaming.

Keep reminding yourself that you're dreaming and really ground it in before going to do things.

I don't want to seem like a fudy dudy but I'd probably ask your doctor about these headaches.

Well, I have had 2 lucid dreams in the past 2 days. In each of them when I tried to think about the REAL world, I would get a headache. I wouldn't wake up though. Weirdest thing i have experienced when having a lucid dream.
