      Question Dream World 'draw distance'?

I recently compared how vivid, complex, and diverse the dream world is; when I am semi lucid and non lucid to when I am lucid.

When lucid, I find that I often have to struggle to keep the world from destabilizing, and I have to create new environments from memory. When non-lucid, environments are always large, and detailed with people, plants, signs etc.

The only metaphor that comes to mind is going from HD to SD. (SD being lucid). Is my conscious mind lacking in the skills to create dream world environments?

I think you are putting too much effort into creating the scenarios, being lucid only means knowing its a dream, not trying to take control of the dream. I let my dream come up with the scenarios, so they are stable most of the times.

I find that if I let the dream come up with scenarios, they are often boring or very realistic. Not to mention the fact that I may forget the fact that I am dreaming.
I will try just 'going with the flow' thanks for the reply.

If you want your dream to become clearer there are two techniques that I use giving a command such as "increase lucidity now" (for me it feels like ive got a second pair of eyelids that open really weird) and inspecting your environment what does this wall 'feel' like what can I 'hear' etc. etc. I am also struggling with forgetting that I am dreaming, although im going to combat this by telling myself every now and then when lucid that it is a dream. As for unstable dream envorionments have you tried rubbing your hands or slowly spinning around, basically putting focud into the dream world helps it stay stable for me.

I think dreams can have a draw distance, but they don't always.

I have flown and seen that far off in the distance the scenery got blurry, distorted, or turned into a fog.

However I have also seen for miles from atop a huge cliff.

You say your locations are boring when you don't try to change them yourself. You are right that the power of the conscious mind is very limited, so that when you try and make all the details yourself it may look like crap. So just choose the theme of the location, without worrying about anything else. Say you were at a door and you didn't know what was on the other side, just think "there is an alien planet behind this door." Don't worry about the geological features, types of plants, or creatures there, just that it is an alien planet and it is going to look cool. The dream will make it much better than you ever could.

My lucids are usually much more vivid than non-lucid dreams.
If I have a lucid I can stabilize the dream by rubbing my hands, touching things, smelling, feeling the air I breath etc, this usually greatly improves vividness.
I never tried to "build" a full scene though, I'm not even sure how to go about that.
If I want to go to a new place I just imagine a very basic version of it (like Tranquil Toad said for example, a cool alien planet, in a forest with exotic alien plants maybe, I don't usually go into more detail than that) it seems like my mind fills in all the missing details.
Exploring such locations is very fun
      Dreams are simple.
It's the painfully simple things the human mind cannot comprehend.
After all your mind is trained to understand the complexity of the waking world,
not the simplicity of the dream world.

When Lucid, it is essential that your concious mind is at the very least partially awake. So baring that in mind, would it be vital to grant a level of control to your subconscious and in doing so commit the "heavy-duty" tasks; including memory reconstruction, to your subconscious and would this make your dream more stable.

However, I currently do not know of a way in which you can allocate these tasks to your subconscious other than just "not controlling the dream", so this post is fairly useless.
