Just stabalize the dream more by rubbing your hands, focusing on your surroundings, and you should always remind yourself at times that it if a dream. I often do this just by murmuring under my breath "this is a dream" if i have a long LD

Practice more awareness, be more skeptical about whether you could be dreaming right now, and observe things more often.

And like Burke said, stabilize right away when you do become lucid. During this time you should also keep telling yourself that you're dreaming, even if you have to repeat it five or six times.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.
