These are simply hallucinations you experience. Usually they are during sleep paralysis. I would take a look at some of the WILD tutorials and articles over in the wiki.

I am actually reading one of Stephen's books right now too (second time through). His writings are definitely insightful and worthwhile.

Hallucinations you experience as you fall asleep. This could be anything from noises to vibrations.
I know Stephen Leberge can be confusing sometimes in his books. However, I highly suggest you stick with it. His tutorials are brilliant!
