      "Crazy" is the normal

All right, I think it's pretty impressive that I'm able to recall 5 dreams a night within four days of starting a journal, and what I write down is even cooler. I'll have wacky adventures in the most obscure scenarios, but this is the problem: ALL of my dreams contain something so wacky & conspicuous that if you saw it in real life, you wouldn't do a double-take, you'd do a quintuple-take (and probably ask yourself if this is really happening).

Here's an example: The other night I had a dream where I was sledding down a snowy hill (at night), that subsequently ended right in the middle of a street intersection. To top it off, I saw two trains coming from both directions of the street. Am I sh*tting bricks? Nah, I acknowledge the tenacious locomotives, shrug, and carry on with my tobogganing.

What's irking me, is that I feel regardless of the spontaneous reality checks I do throughout the day, I just don't seem to care if something is out of place or wrong in my dreams. Will the occasional reality check help me realize that I'm dreaming regardless of the scenario? Even though I feel that it's not a case of reality checking that's the problem? It's simply that I choose not to care when noticing these Blatant absurdities while I'm dreaming. Can I assume this is normal for some people?

Well most of the time, reality checks won't help you become lucid, but instead confirm that you are dreaming after you have realized your dreaming. Although, people do become lucid because they randomly do a reality check, but they still need awareness. I'd suggest you look up ADA which stands for all day awareness. That should help you a lot. Its written by kingyoshi I think.
Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around.

It just takes some practice. It could be that you are just doing reality checks without actually checking reality. When you do a RC, do you stop what your doing and think "is all of this logical, or is it just a dream" or is it kind of like doing a quick RC and saying "nope, not dreaming"? Try doing multiple types of RCs. Also, how long have you done RCs for? Five days isn't that long, so don't get discouraged. Took me way longer than that to have my first one.

Yes I do multiple reality checks (ie. plugging your nose, trying to push your finger through your palm, count fingers, check clock, re-read text) and I make sure that I'm actually awake and not dreaming. Also, don't worry I'm not discouraged; like you said, it's only been 5 days. I'm giving this 1-2 months before I access my strategy and reconsider my approach.
