      Are Supplements really necessary for LD Induction ?

      first and foremost, Greetings to all fellow dreamers. A few questions have been going around my mind lately regarding supplements that assist ( or are supposed to aid ) in Lucid dreaming. Are they really required ? How many of the seasoned LD'ers here on dreamviews actually use supplements ? Do you use them on consistent basis or like occasionally ? How would Lucid Dreams unaided by supplements differ from Lucid ones with supplement aid ?

      I havent really heard or seen any supplements that help with Lucid Dreaming per say.

      There are a few supplements [both fabricated, and natural] which besides their primary purpose, are known to affect; dreams, vividness, consciousness, recall, awareness, etc.

      Vitamin B6 : Which is found in apple juice, eggs, grain, etc.. This will help with the things listed above. You can also find supplements of this vitamin at any store.

      I went to the local grocery store and bought a 100mg - 100 Tablet bottle for $3.99 - So it's relatively cheap..

      The only downside to taking this supplement alone, is B6 [like it says above] has effects which boost awareness, alertness, consciousness, etc.. So it can in a minor form give you energy and/or keep you awake. ... to counter this effect, most people take it with a Melatonin supplement.

      Melatonin is a natural occurring chemical in the brain which when released, make you tired/drowsy. Melatonin is the counter part of Serotonin, but that is irrelevant.

      The typical Lucid Dreamer takes somewhere around [100mg B6 + 3mg Melatonin] about an 30 before going to sleep. The quantity varies from person to person of course.

      If you do more research on this site, you will find all sorts of posts and topics discussing what you just asked. I simply discussed the most popular supplement(s) used by Lucid Dreamers.

      not even close. they are not required

      but they help. Drinking apple jusice made my dreams much more vivid. I havent tried any other supplements though.

      You are aware that B6 is the most active ingredient in Apple Juice when it comes to anything which directly affects the mind/conscious/dreams, right?

      Hi Hussain...I take Vitamin B6 and also 5HTP as this is Tryptophan, this allows you to become sleepy but also keeps your awareness slightly up due to the B6 vitamin. They are both safe and you can get them from any holland & barrat store, they aint illegal LOL

      To answer your actual questions: no of course supplements are not required for lucid dreaming. Some people just go that direction when they have not been able to have success or are having a dry spell. I think there's a good amount of DVers that take things like B6 and melatonin pretty regularly, but I have no idea how many nor could I give you an estimate. Personally I take melatonin every night, and not for lucid dreaming purposes, as it doesn't have much effect on dreams at all. It's just an amazing antioxidant that also helps you get to sleep and does a dozen other great things for your body. I suggest melatonin to everyone. Also vitamins are always good. But if you want to get a better idea of the experienced lucid dreamers here and what they take you should make a poll.

      As far as how LDs differ...it depends on the supplement. B6 makes your dreams more vivid, so I've found that the lucids might be more vivid, but also stranger and possibly even a little harder to control. B6 is also known for causing nightmares. Melatonin does not affect my dream content in the slightest. Taking Galantamine/Choline will definitely cause your lucids to be clearer, more stable, longer, etc. It's pretty much the go to supplement if you want to have nice long lucids (and in my opinion, the only real lucid dream supplement). But you should also be somewhat experienced in order to take advantage of that opportunity, so you know how to use techniques for stabilization and dream re-entry (DEILD) and also WILD.

      Where do you purchase Galantamine from ? I live in United Arab Emirates and supplements like these are not available here.

      I always believe that "drugs contain no information". What I mean is that the pill you just took doesn't have a signal that gives you the knowledge that you are dreaming, thus making you lucid.

      Taking drugs to become lucid is as stupid as saying "Hmm... Taking Vitamin Z will make me instantly learn calculus!". However, vividness can surely be increased IMO. Just making more of your neurons fire...

      But won't that hurt lucidity? I mean, too vivid dreams make RCs turn up real! When you become lucid in a non-vivid dream it automatically becomes more vivid than anything induced with apple juice or whatnot.

      BTW, the amount of B6 in a glass of apple juice is paltry compared to even the lowest dosages of supplements or even a multi-vitamin.

      I also find that fish oil tends to have a positive increase in clarity and memory of dreams.

      I do take the galantamine+choline+l-theanine combo from time to time and really helps to get lucid if done properly.

      Here in the USA it's not available over the counter either... it's for prescription only - but you can buy it online without a prescription. Weird. If you go into a tore and ask about it they'll look it up in a book and then say "You must have a prescription to buy this - it's for Alzheimer's", and then they'll look at you all suspicious like you're trying to make Crystal Meth or something.

      I've had lucid dreams both with and without Galantamine - in fact I was able to have several before I started trying it. Even when you use it, it won't do the work by itself, you have to do a WBTB after at least 4.5 hrs sleep and concentrate on whatever lucidity technique you use - WILD is really what works best with G, but if you miss a WILD attempt it can still make you lucid in a dream as long as you went to sleep concentrating on lucidity.

      Also, if you want to try any of these, it's highly recommended you also get Thomas Yushack's book Advanced Lucid Dreaming: the Power of Supplements, which gives very detailed info about the supplements and how to effectively use them.

      What about dream vividness ? Do supplements make dreams more vivid ? Or is it that one can the about the same clarity and vividness without supplementation ?.
