      Stretching a dream?

      Is it possible to have a lucid dream and make it last as long as you want. if so how long has anyone made their dream last.

      Word goes that they have dreamed a dream that lasted days, even years. I don't buy it tho.

      I have however once had a lucid dream in my life. I was having a lot of fun and i perceived an hour to pass by. Time flies when ur having fun tho so who knows how long that dream was. After that i had a false awakening which lasted for 2 days+ . I mean, i had one day filled with lots of stuff went to sleep and had another day in the dream at the same location. And i slept there again!

      When i finally did wake up. I watched the time and i have slept for only one hour exactly. So... I'm not sure.

      It is absolutely possible. a great example of this can be found in Writerscube's dream journal on ld4all.com:
      Writerscube's DJ (PS you need an account on LD4all to view this)

      I myself have had lucid dreams that have lasted hours, and normal dreams that have lasted even longer. In the above dream journal, Writerscube has a LD that lasts 2 weeks. And when I say 2 weeks, I mean he lives out every second of those two weeks.

      Dude... that is insane... cool dream though. I am always skeptical about those kind of things, however. Also, the man's dreams sound way to structured rather than having the randomness that is almost always involved in any form of dreaming. Either way, nice read. I do believe that it is possible to stretch dreams, only because it usually happens to me in the morning. However I always find it hard to believe that people have managed to stretch it over a day.

      I assure you, Writerscube's dream is legitimate. It's been proven that dream time flows differently than realtime, and there are methods to increasing the dreamtime. If I find a link to them, I'll drop it.

      No, your brain will stop allowing you to sleep after a while. I've had half our LDs without waking up. You can chain dreams together, but they will stop after a while.

      Not possible to stay asleep forever, but if you could somehow slow your perception of time down it would be possible.

      @ninja9578:
      You are correct, but also incorrect. While your Brian will not permit you to remain asleep once your REM period has ended, you can increase the ratio of realtime to dreamtime in the dream. For example, instead of having a one-to-one correspondence between realtime and dreamtime, it is possible to stretch dreamtime, so that maybe a minute of realtime is two minutes or more of dreamtime. Depending on the person and how much practice you have had, you can greatly stretch the amount of time spent in a dream.
