What the hell does this mean

When i was on dreamviews once i read about becoming lucid by falling asleep with your arm up so when it falls it wakes you up so you could wild i thought it would be to complicated and didt give it much thought so went to bed and woke up in the middle of the night on my back with my arm up it really wierded me

out because im like what the hell and it felt really tired like it was up for a long time as this happen to anyone else and know what it means

I have never heard of this technique, perhaps someone who's been here for a longer time can explain. It doesn't sound like it would worl though because as soon as your arm starts to fall down you will wake up. Although when it does, you know you're close to falling asleep so might be a good indicator that you could WILD.

Matte87's correct. Its not a WILD technique, its a technique to practice holding awareness on the edge of sleep (without the risk of losing awareness).

That won't work. You can't fall asleep with your arm up, when you get to sleep, you go limp. It also takes energy to keep your arm up, that means a little bit of adrenaline. Adrenaline is a very powerful stimulant.

The theory may work for WILD though. If you leave your arm up, then let it fall, it's possible that it will trick your mind into thinking you went into SP. I do something similar to induce fast hypnosis as a party trick. However, I still think the adrenaline will keep you up.

You can fall asleep with your arm up, its balanced at the elbow. I know this because ive done it. I used to use the technique to play with hypnogogia and watch the onset of sleep. Ofcourse when sleep finally kicked in the arm falls and you're jolted awake again... but thats the point.

but when it happen to me i didt even try to keep my arm up i just woke up and it was up

My roommate used to sleep with one arm up, and his head raised. He would hit the snooze on the alarm clock, then just stay in that position snoring for another hour. I would catch him on his back, with both arms in the air, sleeping. He was in inexplicably good shape for his level of activity, and we used to make fun of him, saying he was working out in his sleep.
