      A dream, I wasn't in?

Yes you heard right. It started out with me in it, and than we went down from my dad's friends cabin to a body of water that has appeared in my dreams before, which isn't real, it seems to be a strait. Now travelling through it with a little tin boat we come across an island with a house. The house had several inches of snowfall in it. I stepped in to the cabin. I pressed my hand on the snow covered wall. And an FA, but I wasn't in the dream anymore. Has this ever happened to you?

i frequently have third person type dreams where i am looking at something, but there is no me, it is just there. i even have lucid ones, but i cant seem to do anything but watch the scene / image / show as i dont have any kind of body or real ego in the dream.

If you weren't totally asleep, it was probably hypnogogic imagery. I've had some really weird stuff.

I've watched some dreams that were like movies and some that were like intro scenes in TV series, with a theme music and all. They're an interesting change to the usual regime

I'm sure it wasn't HI, because while it was an FA, I fa'ed into watching the scene i call it an FA because I fell asleep in the dream. And "woke up" watching the scene, the FA over a bed at the snow covered house.
