      Best dream journal alternative?

Hi guys, I used too really be into lucid dreaming and through alot of practice I would have them more and more and my dream call was good but not that great but I would often forget conversations. Anyways I am trying to get into lucid dreaming again but my dream recall has gotten much worse since I took my time off. Unfortunately, I don't want to or have time to keep a dream journal. What is the beat alternative to dream journals? I'm looking for somthing that is fairly quick but usefull! Thanks for the help!

Do you have a sound recorder? If you do then that would be the best option as you don't need to move your hands as much and you don't need to see as much, especially if it is on a phone. Less time will be needed to write things down. Then you can listen to the recordings later.

Thanks for the help. Yes I do have a phone that I can record on so I think I will do that. I would do a normal dream journal but I don't have the time ): I appreciate the help by the way.

If you don't have time in the morning, try in the middle of the night.

Best dream journal alternative? Well, imo, there are two:

      1) Write with your finger on a blank piece of paper;

      2) Don't bother with writing anything.. you don't need to.

All this DJ stuff started with laBerge and the version of the New Age that he has spawned. You don't need to keep a written journal imo.

I don't agree with Oneiro. A dream journal is important for recall. Not everyone starts off being able to remember dreams each night. Another thing is that it's important to keep a written journal, rather than an alternative because the process of writing things down embeds into your brain better when trying to remember things. Remember in school when you had vocabulary words and the teacher made you write them down a dozen times? It's because writing is the best way to remember things.

You could essentially use any form of recording to replace a written journal but I don't recommend it. Off the top of my head: Voice recorder, Camera, Blogs, or notes on a phone. Still, I think it's highly important to write them instead.

Hmm, perhaps you just need a better journal.

A dream journal is good for most people because it makes you try and remember more about the dreams that you journal, as you're writing them down. If you naturally remember your dreams when you wake up, and you don't need to journal to remember the whole of them, then that's fine. However, a dream journal isn't just for improving recall, it also helps when you're trying to find your dream signs, or even if you just want to look over your past dreams and not forget them after a day or so.

Caretaker? I seriously think you should grow up:

      Via PM:

"Seriously man, do you like enjoy shitting on people's opinions. Judging from your posts, you seem highly full of yourself. I used to be like that too but then I turned 10. Do you have nothing better to do then try to bully your ideals onto other people?

Honestly, I wouldn't say anything but you're the kind of guy who won't shut up until he's forced by a higher power. I know people like you. I used to BE a person like you. I even know how you're going to respond to this because it's beyond predictable. Save yourself the pointless retort that will lack any real argument.

I'm just trying to say that it's recommended you reduce stress for better dreams. Stop being a hater and support your fellow dreamers.

And I'm aware of who you are. I just don't see the point in being so negative."

Huh?? I can't express a differing opinion without this sort of puerile knee-jerk??

If you've really got anything of substance, Caretaker, say it out in the open.

Caretaker's reply, again via private messaging:

"Seeing as I don't need to prove myself what type of person I am to the other members nor am I putting up a front, I'm not going to respond to your shoddy attempt to get people on your side by quoting my PM in a thread.

Seriously, you're the one who needs to grow up. I'm not putting that thread off-topic for the sake of you gaining attention.

And you responded just as I knew you would. Congratulations, you have no real argument to combat mine nor did you even attempt to try. Don't worry though, I know you'd have me banned before you'd ever agree with what I'm saying."

Grow up... and stop sending me private messages.

Bringing this thread back to normality...

Ebrige, to add to my previous message, if you don't have enough time to keep a dream journal, for whatever reason, then you should definitely go for an alternative like recording your voice or video, and try to write down even just a few words if you can. Oneiro's opinion is perfectly acceptable; I just don't agree with it, because I don't think that dream journaling suddenly sprang up with the advent of Stephen LaBerge. It was most likely around before him, and possibly been around for centuries, which of course I can't prove, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I don't keep a journal, for the most part anymore. And seems for me anyway a visual memory of my dreams is much more important. I suggest trying to keep a visual memory of dreams in your mind first before you write anything down. Kind of like how you might remember people's faces but not their names. I struggle trying to get plot point's down in word's but I can visualize in my mind very easily. Of course this requires you to have a good photographic memory. I still recommend recording a few dream journals, but the visual memory is way more important. So don't immediately especially at first go for a pen. Just lay there and remember, because the earlier you try to remember in your mind the more it feels like a real photographic memory.

You need to develop the habit of trying to remember your dreams the first thing upon waken up. Try not to move at all until you finished going over your previous dreams in as much detail as possible. If you continue doing this exercise your dream recall will improve, and there is no need to write them down. I, however, enjoy writing a dream journal because they are so much fun to read late on, much more so than a dairy of our everyday mundane activities. If you do decide to write them down, I suggest writing down keywords only. With these keywords you can later during the day easily reconstruct your dreams into a full blown dream journal.
