Unfortunately I've never met anyone in RL that has had a lucid that they can recall. The 3 answers I get are 1. "I dont dream", 2. "I had a really bad nightmare and kept telling myself to wake up", 3. "I had a dream about having a dream". I suppose 2 could sort of count as you're obviously aware of your nightmare otherwise you wouldn't be willing yourself to wake up..

I have #2's a lot, do those count as LDs?? Mine are Demonic and Scary as freak sometimes and I'm almost always ending up trying to wake myself up.. I do have those normal LDs too a lot of the time but, I have more Nightmare LDs than normal LDs. I didn't know I had such a special gift.. I guess it's really envied around here . I mean, I have had LDs since I was like 10. I'm 14 now. I'm able to just do stuff in my dreams, whatever I felt like and I'm always aware that I am dreaming whether it's a scary nightmare or something nice. Something weird though, is that when I have nightmare LDs, I don't have the freedom I do in the peaceful ones.. I can't make the scary things go away and I can't leave the nightmare but, I'm almost always aware that I'm dreaming. I always try to wake myself up.. It's odd because it's the opposite when I'm in a non scary one, in a non scary one I have trouble keeping it, It's hard to not wake during a normal one.. The nightmares last longer,

Maybe because the nightmare ones really hold your attention, and the nice ones are fairly boring so you are not as focused?

It's like most people have a mental block like they were not supposed to be interested in this.

Surely if someone offered you a free world full of possibilities, that you could visit every night and still wake up fresh, and all it takes is a few months of even less of practice, wouldn't you listen?

I wonder why so many people don't...
I hear ya. It seems like our society doesn't value dreams much. Laberge stated this in an interview. He said that society treats dreams as trivial events to be forgotten. I was explaining to my sister, at a sushi bar, my first lucid dream where I attempted to fly. All of a sudden a couple across the bar started laughing at me. I suppose they thought I had either too big an imagination or was acting childish and should be embarrassed. I get the feeling after talking to other people that they think the same thing--that it's a waste of time. To each his own, I guess. Their loss.

This is appropriate because it was just a few days ago that I realised that there is no reason to be jealous of people that can do something better than you, even if it's almost without effort.

Instead of getting jealous, I have realised that it is much better to use these people as inspiration. And also competition or challenges.

If someone LD's every night, use that as inspiration and work towards also getting LD's every night.

If someone is amazing at maths and you are jealous, turn that in to inspiration, ask them for advice and figure out how they do it. Practice at it and become as good as them.

      With anything, this works.

After you have gotten as good as that person at whatever it is, you will inevitably find someone else who is even better. Get inspired and get even better yourself.

      Jealousy is defeat.

im not jealous of her, tommo. i was just flabbergasted that i have been living with a person for 5 years, and never knew that we had this in common, this thing that almost no one knows about. AND she is very proficient at it, its not like she is some noob. i find it amazing. but im still pissed off i never knew it before.

The evening hangs beneath the moon, a silver thread on darkened dune.
With closing eyes and resting head; I know that sleep is coming soon.

Upon my pillow, safe in bed,
A thousand pictures fill my head,

      I cannot sleep , my mids aflight;
and yet my limbs seems made of lead.

I understand fully. My mom told me when i was little (around 3) that you can control your dreams if you want.

That's about as far back as i can remember, but i know before then i would realize i was dreaming. It's never been a BIG deal for me, and i didn't even know it wasn't possible for everyone to do easily until i asked a friend about it, and found these forums. Now, even though its not a big deal, i still get really happy when i have one, and enjoy playing around inside of my dreams. It never gets boring.

Jealousy is a natural reaction. It doesn't mean I despise those people, it's just the feeling you get, like when you are happy when you win something; it happens.

I can't really use them as inspiration though. If someone had started out like me, and worked up to an LD a night, then I would be inspired. But not inspired by someone who can just have them every night no sweat.

Then you're doing it wrong. Inspiration is supposed to make you ask "how can I do that?"
You're supposed to find out what makes these people able to do it. That's how ADA came about and it is probably the most effective technique.

Yeah, but I can't think "How do they do that?" about naturals. They do it without effort, you can't learn that.
If someone started off just like me, and showed me it's possible to get a lucid a night, I would wonder how they did that.

They are two completely different things, I know how inspiration works.

So they just do it without a cause?
      It just comes from nowhere?

No. There is always some reason.
they obviously think in a different way to most people.

Or their brain is wired a different way to most people. Like they could naturally pay more attention to their surroundings and spend less time day dreaming. This contributes to LDs, resulting in easier LDs. Now I wouldn't be able to do this naturally, but if someone else, like me did it, I could be inspired by them and ask them how they did it. They could help me, instead of just saying "I dunno, I do it all the time."

      Goals:
      1. Attacking my enemies instead of running away from them~ Ultimately taking control of my dream situation.
      2. Remember that I can always summon a shield around me to protect myself in dreams. No need to fear!

That's pretty much how my dreams were when I was young and how I gained lucidity...fear is a powerful motivator.

      EDIT: .....however I love sleeping

Gah, I have a friend just like that. Complete natural. He used to get a lucid almost every day, and still does pretty regularly (2-3/week). But every time I try and talk to him about it, he seems uninterested and doesn't ever cooperate.

Apparently he finds them annoying. WTF.

I work my ass off trying to get them.

Oh well PXUmais, at least you will eventually get loads of them, and be able to do what you want, while he will just ignore them and they will eventually fade from his mind and he won't use their full potential.

I was kind of thinking that myself.

It's not exactly like he has the upper hand anyway. He might be getting them every night, but what difference does it make when he's not making use of them.

      I feel sorry for him.
