      Question having trouble speaking...

hi everyone! im new to this lucid dreaming thing. i recently had a LD after a while of trying to have one. i found it to be very exciting! i could think clearly and was completely concious that i was dreaming but when i tried to speak it felt like my mouth was not working correctly and my words sounded mumbled. it felt like i had to force out my words. i was trying to say the command "increase lucidity now!" but it was extremely difficult to say these three words! has anyone had this problem? if so does anyone know the cause of this or a solution?

This is something a lot of people have problems with. But really, there is no reason to speak in a dream. Just think, if you are aware you can just think of commands, ya know? or you can realize "this is a dream, there is no point in having trouble speaking" or something to extent. you are in control just try to clear your mind and focus.

Really funny on this end. I usually speak Chinese IRL, though I am also pretty fluent (actually more fluent in terms of writing) in English. In dreams I couldn't bring myself to speak any Chinese, though I speak English perfectly... and of course I couldn't forget the dream where I spoke some Na'vi...

Usually I fall back to Na'vi when I find myself stuck on speaking in LDs.

Hello! I see you. How are you. Bah, this is just a dream. Bye-bye!

This happens to me too. But one time I realized I was dreaming because of the fact that I was having trouble speaking.

I had problems with speaking for a while. It wasn't that I couldn't, but I just had this strange disinclination to when I was lucid. I think it was because I knew I was "in my own head," and no one would hear me anyway. I think that's the same reason why I tend to ignore and not care about the other dream characters. They're all me, anyway.

Anyway, try to look at this problem in terms of a case by case basis. If you expect not to be able to talk in the general sense, you very well may cause yourself not to be able to talk. Believe me--you can. It's just that it was that one dream. Try again next time.

That exact thing happened to me last night. I tried to say "increase lucidity" but was having trouble, kind of like how it's difficult to scream or run in dreams sometimes and feels like you're trying to wade through water. I think the core of the problem for me might be that talking in dreams feels so real. I feel like if I talk in the dream, I'm going to talk in real life. So it's difficult to just talk int he dream. In the past I've resolved it by forcing myself to talk anyway, and trying to convince myself that I'm not talking in real life.

I have this problem all the time. It is either extremely hard for me to tale or I get what I call dream gum in my mouth that I can not take out. In the cases where I get the dream gum I have found I get this because it is keeping me from talking in my sleep.

I have been trying to force my self to give more verbal commands in my dream and i have found no matter how they come out they still work.
