My vote would either go to the Dragon Quest series or the Pokemon series, but DQ is more easily comparable to TES.

Dragon quest was quite repeatitive, IX, not VIII. I liked VIII a lot.

My favourite RPG is Demons Souls, but pokemon is probably the best RPG.

Pokemon to me is the most popular, and has suffered from that, much like COD. It made one or two great games, and ever since then it's just been shelling out the same stuff each year. Sure if it's fun then by all means, but it shows that they have lazy dev's who no longer feel the need to improve or strive for anything else, as they will always get their buyers. Like if you look at pokemon black, sure it has online features and stuff, but that's all that is new. If you look at black ops, it just has a different story and they put killstreaks back in, as with zombies. MW3 is going to sell like hotcakes, but that's just because it was good once.
Makes me sad and annoyed that dev's just do this because it makes money without any effort involved. Which is why I welcome BF3, it will provide some much needed change to "zomg killstreak" and perhaps force COD to pick up the pace a bit.

Pokemon is so up there above every other handheld rpg that I doubt it will ever get that kick.

true, but its still the best. What beats it (not in personal opinion, i mean how its made, and over all goodness, because i like demons souls and chrono trigger more, but pokemon is better)

I liked DQ because it was nicely spaced out in it's story, had a good series plotline, every game was different, and was just great to play. Not too much of this or too little of that, just right.
I remember when I beat DQVIII, I was sad that the ending sucked, but after I beat all the dragovian trials, and got the good ending, it was great, but I still wished it wasn't over.

i dont have the game, but i only got to Dark Steel Dragon. I didnt like 9, it was way to repetitive and boring.

Yeah, IX was good as you got to make your own character, but then you also got to make your party, which kinda sucked out their souls. It wasn't really repetitive to me, but they couldn't really do too much on the DS, could they?

Beating the trails was fairly easy, just grind MKslimes at night with executioner and falcon slash with the falcon blade or metal slash with any other decent sword. Or multishot, whatever, any idiot who knows about Metal slimes knows how to eat them.

Darksteel dragon is actually the easiest, provided your hero is level 60 I think, when he learns dragon soul, which is supa powerful as it' ignores defense.

Really low HP- meet defense ignoring move. Goodbye.

Actually I found that black/white were unnecessary exercises in trying to 'progress' by tinkering with fundamental elements of the pokemon formula, and really suffered for it. I could have with graphical improvements without the bullshit attempts at a more complex narrative.

Red/Blue are and always will be the greatest handheld games of all time

I would prefer if they changed up pokemon, but kept the same formula. Like it has a certain charm with the tiles and the sprites and such, but wouldn't it be even better if they made it more open? Like if you ever played the Zelda games on the DS, that's what I mean. It could still work as a pokemon game, but it would just be nicer to have that extra freedom instead of straight lines and right hand turns all the time.
