Question Online it sounds as though I should be in my dream, but it is still more like a movie or sim game

I had a lucid dream the night before last. I was in a room, and it was still more like an interactive movie. I was not myself, I was my conscious mind giving commands to my dream body.

I false awoke multiple times and kept in by telling myself that I am in control and it does not need to end.

I tried spinning to change my surroundings, but it did not work. I tried changing my surroundings to a runway (for the open space), but i cannot recall if it worked or not.. I think I stayed in the room. It did not seem like i could change much (from the snippets I remember)
The reason I tried to spawn the runway was to try to jump-fly. I do not think I could get off the ground in that either

Am I abnormal? Is three something I need to do to get into my dream body? How can i improve my power over the dream?

I am currently trying the NILD method I awoke about 80 minutes ago after 6 hours, and I am about to go to sleep. I just watched a video about seeing myself comfortable in bed then going lucid, then a related subliminal message video reinforcing the first.

I'll update later on my success

Oh it is just a matter of practice, some are lucky enough to have awesome lucidity their first time, most people don't so just continue like normal. Anyway just try to stabilize the dream, make it clear and then continue like normal.

The levels of conciousness vary in the dream, so it can seem like you weren't in control, in that case you were but just didn't have that level of conciousness to do what you would do in real life. Bit of a tongue twister that. Like Hukif said, it comes with practice you generally become better at doing what you want to do with time.

My attempt at NILF lucid dreaming failed. I did not dream.
I got too anxious and did not fall asleep for over an hour.

it did feel as though I was becoming paralyzed, and this just added to my anxety, because this usually means you're falling asleep while your mind is awake. Although, when I tried hard I moved and reset the falling-asleep process

I get anxious and my breathing and heartbeat rate rise and I cannot sleep. How do I combat this?

Also, how long do you need to sleep to have a good shot at a long lucid dream? Is 8 hours enough?I understand that you do not undergo REM for the first 6-ish hours typically.
