The best person who can interpret your dreams is yourself. Dream Signs are a guide.

You cannot "control" dream signs, because they are too complex. They are not only products from residual memory, but also are projections of your expectations/fears/hopes or emotional states. In this sense, you can't "erase" a specific dream sign (why would you anyway, since it can lead you to lucidity). But yes, you can create new dream signs.

      How?

The process of visualization and dream incubation may produce dream signs. Even certain actions like meeting your dream guide may have particular influence and produce stable dream projections/content which may act/constitute a dream sign (in the sense that they have a frequent occurrence). The creation of symbols (like totems) or even the attachment to a real object it's another good way of creating dream signs. It takes some effort though because choosing a random target to become a heavy/constant presence in your dreams is a pretty difficult task.

A dream sign, in lucid "terms" is anything that allows you to become lucid. Wether it's a "sign" of a deeper meaning message from the unconscious self to the conscious self, we cannot say. Besides, there are loads of dream signs, many more than we can actually perceive in our dreams. Considering each and every one of them a message or a "guide" is assuming that the whole process of the dream state is merely there for a mirror of our expectations/fears/hopes, thus ignoring the function of memory organizing that belongs to the dream. In the end, you can't distinguish between the randomness of the dream content.

I think Diesel is refering in this topic to the dream signs that "help you getting lucid", not the dream signs that may give you insight about yourself (although they all do in some way ^^).
