      Lucid Dreaming And Art

Recently I have been using my LDs for art. Two nights ago I asked my dream to show me a beautiful work of art... I studied it then woke up and drew a quick sketch... I'm now working on what really is a stunning work of art.

Last night I decided to take it one step further... I've been writing an outline for a book that involves a unique perspective on the distant future... Immortality. So what I did was ask the dream to show me this future... From that I was able to get a great setting... The landscape, the way society has changed, etc.

The originality of these two experiments astounds me! Has anyone else ever attempted something similar? And if so, what??

Sounds like an amazing project. This is something I will have to try myself.
I am too quite interested in Art, but never have (consciously) tried to conjure up a picture or an object which could be the inspiration for work of art. However I have tried to draw some of my dreams in the past, but as dreams are quite fluid (like a movie, etc.) then it's knowing what to draw or leave out, etc.
I asked a DC in one of my recent LD's if she saw the same scene as me after I looked out of my kitchen window. I saw landscape, fields and a vivid deep blue sky. (Not like that in real life.) However I'm still waiting on what she saw, as she never answered me back!
Keep us posted on your experiment, or your findings Liquidaque as it sounds quite fascinating.

I would be interested in seeing the final result.

I haven't tried using a LD for this, though I would love to be able to. Too often I'm not as direct in my lucids as I would like to be.

Still, the visuals in dreams are amazing, and I find that when I enter a dreamstate while still not techincally asleep I create some amazing artisitc images worthy of painting.

The mind is an amazing creation. Put it to good use, and show your project when done!

I recently started working on an animated short film about dreams. This one that I'm working on is specifically about what my 11 year old sister and I dream about together. I guess that kind of works as inspiration since it is about the dreams that we both have.. but your idea sounds pretty massive and amazing. Would love to see it!

Although I haven't had the opportunity yet, I plan on using lucid dreams to help me create music. I often hear music in my dreams anyway, and if I could tap into that and direct it where I wanted, I think I could get some really cool ideas from my dreams.

I think creativity spews in lucid dreams. I haven't had much experience with it other than a song I once busted out singing in an LD once.

Nice idea. Quite a few pieces of music I've written have been dream-inspired, but never lucid dream-inspired (as I have yet to experience one).

I like the idea of taking your creativity in its entirety from your dreams, as dreams, and by extension the unconscious mind, contains the purest forms of your thoughts. In other words, your creativity is unlikely to be subjected to conscious thought, social norms, or doubt.

I plan on doing this as well. I'm not 100% sure actual melodies can be heard in dreams, or if it's just the illusion/mental project of melodies, but it would be cool to be able to say you heard a song you've written in your dreams, like Paul McCartney. My tracks are only dream-inspired, rather than dream-created so far...

I think the music is probably an illusion or jumble if you don't put your attention to it, but I feel like if you were to listen carefully you could probably hear clear melodies and notes. I bet you could even learn them well enough to remember them when you wake up. If nothing else, you could get the general groove or feel of a song going.

I hear absolutely beautiful classical music when I'm in the hypnagogic state and occasionally in the LD... All original. But alas, I only play the drums and cannot write music.

I'm the same (or, at least I was), I'm a drummer but am trying for a degree in music! It's not easy. Fortunately I started producing electronic music a few years ago, which serves as my creative output.

What's the difference between an actual melody and the illusion of a melody? All melody and music is an illusion. It's the illusion of order found in tones that really have no relation to each other. Music only exists in our heads and all melodies are just mental projections.

Count me in this drumming circle as well! I play percussion and drums as well.

I am digging your sounds as well. I am also learning to create electronic music, but I have not finished any projects yet.

What I mean by the illusion of a melody, is the possibility that in a dream your brain is thinking it can hear a melody, when really it's, say, the parts of your brain that activate when you hear music (if that makes sense). For example, say you listen to a piece of music when awake, what you actually 'hear' is your brain's projection of what goes through your ears as electrical signals. Say you then hear this same piece of music in a dream, what I'm trying to say is that it's just brain activity, and it perhaps you're experiencing this activity without actually being given any notes in your dream.

I may be completely wrong, and we'll obviously never know, but I've heard a lot of people saying they hear fantastic melodies in their dreams, but can't remember them when they wake up, no matter how hard they try. Maybe their brain is telling them they can hear a really good tune, when really there's nothing being played?

      EDIT

      Cheers man!

What programme(s) are you using? If you need any help, particularly with Reason or Cubase, I'd be happy to.

For non-electronic stuff I use Sibelius, but for electronic stuffs I'm using FL Studio. At first I tried out this program called Mixcraft (which is pretty handy), but I wanted a little bit more control so now I'm learning to use FL Studio.

I might have to inquire how you got a certain effect for something on your soundcloud tracks at some point I'm currently making a remix of "What is Love," so I'll be sure to let you know when I'm finished if you want to check it out.

I tried FL studio a few years ago when I was still just starting out. I was impatient and got frustrated with it, and unfortunately abandoned it. Luckily studying music for my degree, as well as a bit of physics A-level has allowed me to learn the underlying concepts of sound that should now transfer to any programme.

But yeah, please feel free to ask, and if not, let me know when it's done!
