Lucid Dreaming will never become mainstream because it is a commitment rather than a simple action. It may become largely popular though, and that would be quite awesome.

The journalist was very lucky to have a lucid dream on her third attempt.

Based on my own experiences discussing LDing with non-LDers, I think it will only become mainstream if someone develops a nearly effortless way to become lucid. Even folk who seem to be quite excited about trying it quickly lose interest when they find out it involves work.

My LDing record, if you want to hear about it, is about 4 WILDs, 1 DEILD, and the rest DILDs.

I don't think that she was luckily, some people already get a Lucid dream after just starting to read LaBerges book "Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming", to give an example I myself have experienced a Lucid Dream right after I read the book for the very first time before sleep.

"Disappointingly, Hobson tells us, "lucid dreaming is very hard work and won't happen for everyone"."

I don't think this is true neither, everybody can lucid dream if they just believe in it and start to being more aware of their surroundings in waking life, and thats not my definition of work and definitely not hard work. Of course, if you want to get more out of your lucid dreams, you can start to dig deeper into different techniques, also incubation techniques, techniques to get more vivid dreams etc. But to just get Lucid dreams, DILD/MILD + being more aware is enough imo. So it is sadly that many people get scared away because there exists so many different techniques, yet it is in truth very simple.

I just wondered if the article made a few people google who ended up here

As for mainstream, as tech improves there might be something eventually which could induce lucid dreaming with little effort. There's already apps and the blindfold/lights thingymebob. I could definitely see a lot of potential in lucid dreaming for psychological purposes alone.

      Hi Oceandrop

Not sure if I made it clear, but I was actually talking about my own experiences with friends who have shown interest in lucid dreaming, then quickly lost interest when they found out the work it involves.

I think every LDer knows the feeling. Its the best when you have one of those bullshitty friends who states he definetely had one within two days but is clearly talkin S**t. And then you have the friends that say they want to try but never bother,

If lucid dreaming would become very easy to achieve. It wouldn't be so rewarding to achieve one. So I'm quite happy with it right now. I feel special, because I know that I'm one of the few people who can achieve it. (Considering the worlds population)

I never thought about that before...I suppose you are right. I agree with Bobblehat...if someone find a almost effortless way to become lucid (which is likely in the future) then it just might become mainstream.

Agree with this too. Lucid dreaming would just loose it's special feeling if you didn't have to work for it.
