      Am I getting there?

      Hello!

I haven't been actively trying to become lucid, but some things have made me wonder if I am on my way to achieving lucidity~~

I'm a bit confused about this whole 'realising you're dreaming while asleep' thing... is it possible to think (in your dream) that you're dreaming, but it still be a part of the dream, and not the 'real' you realising you're asleep?
That hardly makes sense but it's difficult to explain, I hope someone understands!

The first time I wondered about this I was having a nasty dream, involving scarey monsters and such, but before it got too bad I told myself "It's just a dream, nothing can hurt you" over and over again - it felt like a hundred times in less than a minute - then I woke up.
So I wasn't lucid or anything, but I thought it was quite exciting that I realised it was a dream while I was asleep, and woke myself up.

The second time, I had a random nap in the afternoon and dreamt I was driving. I realised quite quickly it was a dream, since I can't drive yet I'm obsessed with starting to learn, and got quite excited. I immediately thought about flying and the car suddenly lifted off into the air... but it only lasted a few seconds and things became really hazey and I woke up.

Was this lucid? Or close to it? I didn't feel as if I had any heightened senses or anything, it just felt like a normal dream except this immense excitement and the fact I decided I wanted the car to fly.

But was it just a part of the dream that the car flew, or did I make it fly?

Hi ginny, congrats they were both lucids. The first may ave been more of a semi-lucid as you say you knew but I think I get what you mean when you say but you didn't realise, more of a second where you think "I'm dreaming" but you have no controll and although you say it you don't actually realise about what you ave said lol, hard to explain isn't it. The second was totally lucid, you realised you were dreaming and you wanted to fly which made the ar begin to fly into the air, so you had some controll in there too. Keep up the good work and congrats on your first 2 lucids. Any dream where you realise that your dreaming is a lucid one, even if it's only for a second you realise your dreaming it's still lucid. Looks like you will have many more to come. Just relax and stay calm and try some techniques to stabilise once you realise, like rub hands together, call "clarity now" this will make your experience last longer. Well done you!!!!

Yes, that's quite common. You have an idea that you are dreaming, but it doesn't really "click". It's a good sign.

Scary dreams are known to make you aware that it's a dream. If you had same feeling of excitement as in your next one, than this one was also lucid.

Now this one was clearly lucid. The realization, the immense excitement and that your first thought was to go flying are dead giveaways of a lucid dream. And yes, your thoughts made the car fly, as our dreams respond to our thought. You may not have control everytime in a lucid dream, or you may have different degrees of control.

You can learn about LDs in this Beginners guide to lucid dreaming and here about how to induce lucid dream called DILD - that's what you had. When in a regular dream you somehow realize you are dreaming. It's the easiest method to start with. Post your questions and Happy dreams
