      Was I becoming lucid?

      Hello
I'm new to this forum although I've been interested in lucid dreaming for about about a year and started seriously trying to make myself have lucid dreams a couple of months ago. I have been religiously keeping a dream journal (which is easy for me - luckily I have always had massively vivid dreams which I always remember) and have also been doing reality checks throughout the day. I haven't succeeded yet though... until, I think, last night I made a breakthrough. I was having quite an upsetting dream and I really wanted it ( the events, not the dream as I didn't know it was a dream) to stop and all of a sudden the whole dream just froze for what felt like 30 seconds. I was wondering what was going on and then I just woke up. On reflection I am wondering if this was me becoming lucid. Has anyone had similar experiences? I would love to hear as then I'd know that I'm getting somewhere with all this!
      Thanks
      X

If you were questioning the events that were happening in the dream then yes, you were probably close to becoming lucid. Almost all DILDs start by you noticing something strange. After that all you do is preform a reality check to be sure and viola! You're lucid (If it works and you believe it).

While I haven't had a dream end right before I would've became lucid I have had near misses which include dreaming about LDs and doing reality checks, having them pass but not believing them, and just having reality checks say it's real even though I wake up minutes later.

I'm going to agree with Burke above. You're very close, the edge of lucidity. Questioning your surroundings is typically a step before becoming aware, or at least slightly aware.

Keep a good attitude, and see if it will happen again!

      Happy dreaming!
