Thumbs up Video Games and Lucidity Theory

I have formed a theoretical hypothesis involving video games interfering with lucid dreaming. In some aspects, exposure to technological stimuli should increase dream vividness and even dream recall.

However, when one becomes accustomed to the actions and events taking place in a video game, reality might become obscured. For example: Call of Duty is a war simulator which millions of players consider a hobby. Shooting enemies and dodging bullets has become a normality for these individuals. When approached with this same situation in a dream, one might pass the event off as a simulation rather than a dreamscape.

I'm hoping that someone will confirm this theory, or even oppose this. Do video games influence bad lucid dreaming habits? Or do they stimulate lucidity?

In the situation you're describing, I've often had a dream where I believed I was in a video game switch over to knowing I was dreaming. When you already know you're in a world that's not real, it's just one step away from knowing it's a dream. Same thing can happen with movies. Especially with 3D.

But in general, I believe video games to be terrible for dreaming and Lucidity. For the reason that most people will be spending more time concentrating on defeating their game, than working on inducing Lucidity, and maintaining recall. And yes, I'm speaking from personal experience. I don't play them anymore, for said reason.

I can see that argument that the games would desensitize someone to reality if they are immersed in virtual reality all day. It may depend on how much one practices LD techniques during the day. There is an interesting article on gamers and lucid dreaming...

I can't post links yet so search for the article titled "Videogames train you for lucid dreaming?" on google.

I've seen that article. I don't agree with it. But then, everyone is different. If it works for you use it. Wish it was true for me. I used to love a good adventure game. But the only thing video games do for my dreams, is completely take them away.
And I'd rather be dreaming than gaming. It's cheaper, more fun, and doesn't take up so much of your waking life time.

There is another thread on the topic here at DV somewhere. I believe that article is posted there.
