Where best to start meditation from scratch?

      Hi DV,

I recently thought I would pick up meditation. Meditation as in the real thing, not the stuff I do to relax myself.

So I wanted to ask, where do you suggest should I start? Keeping in mind I have almost zero previous knowledge about meditation.

Any internet material would be especially nice, but book references are welcome as well.

      Thanks in advance.

The crimson blood shimmers on the snow,
The shattered heart weeps of hidden sorrow.
And over a pure white sky,
      rises a black moon.'

      Hi Max,

I would suggest Aro Meditation - you can find it with a quick google search. They email you free weekly lessons when you sign up.

This is much better than blowing through 200 pages of theory and applying a dozen variations of practice at once. By the time you get to meditating on emotions, you will be able to take what you've learned and have a strong foundation for a good practice.

I have read a good number of books and this really summed up all the important points. I have been practicing since last October. If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me.

It's impossible to suggest anything in particular to a person who doesn't state what he wants from meditation. What are your goals?

Any chance you could explain what you think real meditation is? Let's start there, and I can probably recommend something good.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

I read this when I first started, recommended by another user of this forum I believe:

It's pretty useful in that it spells it out pretty basically and gives you a good idea whether meditation is for you or not (though I can't see how anyone could dislike it). I'm relatively new to meditation as well, however, but I assume this is as good a starting point as any.

I'm probably looking for something to enter a deeper state of mind during my LD's.
Also, something to cool my nerves while I'm in an emotional disorder.

When someone with zero knowledge about LD'ing asks me about it, I tell them about the definition of LDing first, then how it works, and then introduce them to DILDs.

Looking for something along similar lines.

I found it an interesting topic and thought to give it a try, and hence I asked for any material I could read.

This is helpful but a little too basic. I already knew all of that.

What exactly is a 'trance', and how does it feel? How do you know you're in one?

I have done a LOT of WILDs, so I might be familiar with it.
