Don't know when to wake up for WILD/WBTB?

I know you're supposed to wake up 5-6 hours after you've fallen asleep, but now that it's summer, my sleep schedule isn't as uniform as it was during school. Now, I sometimes fall asleep at 2, 4, and maybe 6. Once I had a lucid dream at around 7 and the other day I had a lucid dream around 10. I don't know when to set my alarm because when I did this morning, I woke up after the REM stage. What should I do to make sure I wake up during the REM stage? What time should I set my alarm clock to be safe?

When preforming a WBTB with the intent of following it up with a WILD you want to wake up between REM cycles, preferable right at the end of one. This is where the 5-6 hours after you fall asleep comes in. It's also 5-6 hours from when you fall asleep, so if you fall asleep at 2, set an alarm/wake up at 7 or 8. If you fall asleep at 6 set an alarm for 11/12, and so on. However everyone's sleep pattern is different so you'll have to experiment with times until you find the one that works best for you. The only practical way to find your REM cycles is to experiment, trial and error. You could hook yourself up to a brain scan to detect dreams or when they end, but that's just silly

I have a cool app on my phone (android), which allows you to pick an alarm for when you are going to sleep, it'll add 15 minutes to where you've set it (enough to fall asleep) so it does all the hard work for you. I shall link some screenshots when they are uploaded
