Music and it's influence on ADA

Hello guys and girls out there.

I've been wondering about something for a while and decided to ask for your opinion or experience on this. I'm practising ADA (All Day Awareness for those who aren't familiar with it http://www.dreamviews.com/f49/all-da...gyoshi-113253/) and i read somewhere that listening to music will negatively influence you when trying to become aware of your surroundings. I've tried listening music while being aware of my surroundings but i don't seem to notice any problems with this. Am i oblivious to the facts or does listening music really not have any effect on you if you concentrate enough on awareness? Yes i do know that listening music while trying to concentrate is silly because i won't notice the music but post your opinion/experience anyway please

Ya I practise a bit of ADA too but when I listen to music, (which is often) I take a break and just listen to the music fully and enjoy it :p I just can't listen to music and try to stay aware about other things it sucks haha

As far as I know, It doesn't matter whether you listen to music or not, its just that music is a distraction(which is bad) but I'm sure that if you concentrate enough it shouldn't matter.

I have a feeling i concentrate enough for that, which is why i started this thread. Would be cool if it would seem this way because i tend to listen to music while traveling a lot :p and traveling takes up about 90 minutes every day for me.

I normally have my headphones in whilst walking about but I stopped now I'm trying ADA because I found it too distracting. I guess it's up to the individual really, if you don't feel distracted then go for it!

I listen to a lot of podcasts and will put them on when I walk to the store. To me it's like dividing your attention between two separate worlds, doesn't seem good for all for awareness. But in a LD you have to keep your attention divided between awareness and what you are doing in the dream anyway, so I think it may actually be good exercise. Every time you lose awareness of the outside world, just gently bring your attention back to both.

In that case, i'll happily keep listening to music while ADA-ing .
While we're on topic about music, playing a song in your head from the intro all the way to the outro can actually help your awareness! By concentrating on playing the song in your head you increase your capability of concentration, making it easier to stay aware during ADA sessions.

Music is everything to me, so i do everything better with it. When i listen to chillout/ambient music it puts my mind in a much more relaxed place, where it's actually easier to concentrate on my awareness, and especially falling asleep.

Mostly the last thing is what i recognise and it intrigues me. Whenever i can't sleep people say go read a book but listening to music seems much more effective (for me at least). I'm glad though because music to me is important as well :p
