First I just have to say, binaural beats are the bomb! I use 'em too so I am glad I get a chance to share what I know about them...
From what I have researched, it seems that during sleep your brain operates on 90 minute intervals. Basically, it starts out in super deep sleep without dreams operating at a low frequency (delta), then shifts up into a slightly higher frequency where you have most of your dreams that are vivid (theta), and finally shifts up into an even highr frequency that is intended to wake you up at the end of a cycle (alpha). At the end of a cycle, your brain shifts into this frequency to make you concious as well as wake your body. Although you may not know it, you probably wake up a couple of times each night and maybe just can't remember. This is because of these sleep cycles.
So, how do binaural beats fit into this?? Well, after a lot of expirimentation I have come up with something that at least seems to work well for me. It is very useful for dream recall and attempting WBTB's and WILD's in the early morning hours. The key is synching the beats with what your brain is actually doing at the time, so you are not say, playing the delta waves when your brain is actually in theta... Anyways, here is what I do...
I made an mp3 where the delta waves go for 20 minutes. I figure that this is roughtly when the brain shifts into theta, and even if it is shorter, I would rather play theta during delta (because there are no dreams during this time anyways), than delta during theta (and mess up when I am having dreams). Anyways, after 20 minutes of delta, the mp3 then plays theta for the remainder of the 90 minute cycle. After the theta is finished, I have 6 minutes of alpha waves to wake me up so I can record dreams, work on WILD, or whatever you would do during this time. I also have about 15 minutes of rick music after the alpha just to be safe although 90% of thie time I wake up from the alpha waves anyways.
Each time I wake up I do an RC, then check the time. Personally I am now in the schedule where I wake up at 2:30 after the first cycle, start the mp3 again, then go back to sleep. I then tend to wake up at 4:30 - 5:00 and then start an alarm I am using to practice WILD's. Basically, if you don't use any alarms or anything in the morning to work on WILD's just start the mp3 over. Hope this helps!
PM me if you want any mp3's or anything about the beats. (I have recorded separately alpha, delta, and theta, as well as a 90 minute sleep cycle mp3 that goes through each stage I mentioned)
See ya!
