      Mild help?

I have been keeping a dream journal and trying to use the mild method. So far I have had only one very short lucid dream. I also have trouble falling asleep repeating "I will be aware that I'm dreaming" over and over again. Help?

For the MILD method, it takes at least 2-4 weeks for it to take effect. Just be patient, your on the right track. Also keep in mind that as much as you repeat your mantra while awake, the quicker it will take effect in your dreams. But if your mantra keeping you awake is too annoying, try shortening your manta a little bit. Another tip i have is that putting your mantra in future tense is less likely to work, because your brain doesn't know when in the future to put the mantra into effect. A better mantra than "I will be aware that I'm dreaming" is "I am aware that I'm dreaming" or "I will be aware that I'm dreaming TONIGHT" Hope this helps!

      Ditto ^^^

Also, maybe try some relaxation techniques before bed? And make sure your mantra really means something to you! Simply repeating the words won't do the trick, you have to really believe in it. If you just say them mindlessly over and over, your dream self will also do the same, and you won't really get lucid.

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

Add a little visualization. Imagine yourself becoming lucid, and imagine what you plan to do. Picture yourself in a dream, performing a reality check. Don't overdo it. You are just reminding yourself of your intent. Let yourself fall asleep.
