      "I'd rather drink beer."
"When I'm laying in bed, I just want to sleep."
"I want to do it, but I don't want to put some effort into it."

But I already got one friend into lucid dreaming .

I only tell kids. They're usually incredibly receptive and think it's amazingly cool. Adults, I don't bother, unless I've had a lot to drink and it's someone who's just sort of an acquaintance, and they've also had a lot to drink, so there's plausible deniability involved .

edit: actually I told my best friend, but I already knew he's a very spiritual guy, and he turned out to have done LDing also some years ago.

So weird. Everyone in my family doesnt even care about it at all. I guess they never feel the joy of getting a lucid dream. Too bad.

One thing that I find pretty funny is that some people can even show occasional fascination about dreams in general, and still don't want to listen to topics about lucid dreaming.
I know several people who sometimes tell their amazing stories about dreams that have affected them so much that they are filled with wonder for several days, and it's quite annoying when not even they seem open to learn to have lucid dreams.

I guess one reason for this is that most people seem to view dreams as "random images in your head", and don't realize that dreams are actually more like worlds - it's kind of like the difference between a hologram and a video screen.
      People who don't practice lucid dreaming seem to think of dreams as video sequences, I think of them as holograms;
      I am "inside" them.

I think the issue is the amount of work involved to have lucid dreams. Anyone who experiences one will find it find it awesome but to experience it again takes too much work to keep their interest.

i dont even get to explain any of the "work" involved, before people turn a deaf ear on me....

i used to try to talk about lucid dreaming to co-workers, but they all just started thinking im weird, so i stopped.....
people have very small minds, they dont like to really think about anything other than their daily bullshit......

I haven't told too many people but I'm totally an open book and share things I'm interested in with people if I talk to them for any length. Most people don't really seem to care. Anyone who is close to me though is going to have to listen to it though lol because I want to talk about it.

I found this too. Most of my friends just like to see sleep as some time where you blackout, my little sister (11 years old) on the other hand, seems quite interested in dreaming. Always trying to remember her dreams and telling them, the bad thing is that I'm the only one who is actually interested in that. Since I now wish someone had taught me how to lucid dream at that age, I'll try to see if I can teach her some techniques.

I've told my best friend and my family, my grandma thought it was really awesome, my best friend thought it was a waste of time and ended up changing the subject every time i mention it. (Even during big accomplishments like me learning to fly for the first time) My parents aren't really interested and my sister is completely against me even saying the word. All the little kids I told were so excited and interested that they didn't want me to stop talking about it.

I actually kind of like the possibility that other people would think I am crazy.
I am sometimes slightly eccentric anyway, and it's fun to confuse people and make them feel a bit uncomfortable about something.

But most of all, lucid dreams feel incredibly precious partly because they are so unknown.
It's like this secret state of "dream nirvana" that we can enjoy while everyone else is oblivious or indifferent about it - like a secret, wonderful playground.

      Same here.
People will usually Like or comment on my posts there, but as soon as I write something about lucid dreaming they suddenly go completely silent 100% of the time.

People where I live will think you're knee deep in witchcraft if you tell them, lol.
So, I prefer to keep it to myself most of the time

Facebook is made to share information *friends*. If they don't want to listen, don't you think is better to stop?

It was hard for me to believe in OBE's, I was envious. Now they make perfectly sense as lucid dreams. It's something you have to see by yourself.

Hmmm...nobody was saying please stop, it is disturbing. One guy is interested. It is a copy-paste for me, and it is just a my little contribution to bring LD in the public consciousness.

(Ok, a joke...but seriously I made the "mistake" that I was speaking about LD with young fathers while their kids where there. 2 times. Both of them stabbed me with their eyes, so I was changing the subject.)

Edit: Oh...sorry admin, I made a double post.

it does sound a bit looney though, doesn't it?
People who actually put so much thought and energy into something as whimsical as "controlling dream worlds" breathing fire, flying, teleporting. To people who don't even dream but once or twice every few months, yeah it sounds a little nutts. I don't even tell people I dream every night because they won't believe you. I didn't know how rare it was for people to dream that much until I started wanting to talk about it with friends and family. They just look at you like you're mad. I would rather just keep quiet about it, just to avoid being labeled as a loon.

Argh, this drives me crazy! I've been excited about lucid dreaming ever since I discovered it (about two or three years ago), but everytime I start talking about it to my friends and family the only reaction I get is ''oh yeah? seems cool...I guess'' and nothing else, except trying to change the subject. It's impossible to show them what they're missing... Or maybe I just don't know how to talk about LD and make them interested in it.

I am gonna try and bring up this topic to one of my classmates next week, he seems like a fairly curious person in general, so there could possibly be a chance that he might pay some sort of attention if I am lucky.
I am prepared for the classic "uh alright, cool, now let's talk about something else" reaction, though.

I've told some people about lucid dreaming. Here's their reactions I can remember.

My brother-in-law says he lucid dreams every night with very good dream control.
My sister says she has a lucid dream every 2 weeks on average.
My mom says most of her dreams she knows she's dreaming but she has zero interest in dream control.
My cousin just gives me a strange look.
My dad has no idea what I'm talking about.
My co-worker says she often has lucid dreams.
My step-mom says she learned about lucid dreaming in school (phycology major).

      I feel lucky, lol.

I've posted lucid dreams on Facebook too. Only my brother in law, sister, and co-worker are interested in lucid dreaming. Some of my other friends seem interested in non-lucid dreaming but not about lucid dreaming. They don't even care about WILDing. I usually only get a couple of likes as well when I post. I only have 67 friends, though.

I told my parents about lucid dreaimng and their reactions were pretty good

My father is interested in it.
My mom said she does lucid dreaming sometimes also she said she never controlled it properly.

Then they talked about their non-lucid dreams a lot and I told them about my lucid experiences.I didnt expect anything like that.
But i dont think they got the whole idea.

A while ago I actually posted on Facebook that I felt very fascinated about a lucid dream I have had recently, and that I thought it was amazing how everything could feel so utterly realistic, and I was hoping that I would at least get some kind of reaction, or even skepticism and concern about my mental health or whatever - anything, so that I would have an excuse to start a conversation with one of them about this.

...It was completely dead, not a single comment or Like in like half-an-hour despite many friends being logged in at that point, so I gave up and removed the comment.
