      I think I Lucid Dreamed!

I've always been interested in Lucid Dreaming and I recently started a dream journal. Unfortunately I recently lost my Nan to cancer and am suffering heavily from Anxiety and such. Last night I was dreaming normally when suddenly I realized my Nan was talking to me.

I thought to myself: Wait a minute, my Nan died! This can't be real.

Suddenly I felt a little lucid. I began to panic and thought I'd died and somehow I couldn't return to my body. I shoved off that thought and calmly said "I'm dreaming!" and to test this hypothesis I looked up at the sky and tried extremely hard to turn it into night. After a strained effort a part of the sky turned black and then so did the rest of the sky.

Unfortunately I let my fear get the best of me and the street I was in was cast into darkness and I was launched into a bunch of tiny hooded with white faces that sprung up from the ground. I once again shrugged off the fear and the sky returned to white. I walked up the street only to view almost an entire city and a bunch of mountains ahead. Thinking to myself "My mind is actually creating an entire city." I was amazed by the power of my mind.

I somehow knew I was going to wake up and when I did my entire body was tingling. For a brief second I didn't think I could move and then I rolled over; my body still lightly tingling.

I felt Lucid but the dream also felt quite hazy at times. It was like I was half lucid because I remember feeling quite confused at what was happening around me.

      Did I lucid dream?

Oh, that was definitely a lucid dream - and a pretty eventful first one! Nice job!

It's true that there are (somewhat) 'levels' to lucid dreaming. You can kind of compare it to waking life: Sometimes, when you are awake, you are groggy and disoriented (like when you first wake up). You are awake and aware that you are no longer sleeping, but you aren't functioning at 100% mentally or physically. On the opposite side of that, if you've just run a 100m dash, and you are feeling alive and alert and 100% awake, it is just another level of that same 'wakefulness'. Dreaming is the same way. There are low-level (groggy, barely aware) lucid dreams, and there are higher (intense, extremely vivid) lucid dreams.

Very nicely, done, though. Congratulations on your first lucid dream, and here's to many more!

A very awesome first lucid at that, congratulations! I've got a tip for you though, never ever think: "What if I wake up?" or something similar, that wakes you up 95% of the time.

I'm sorry about your grandma, but lucid dreaming about her is actually a good way to keep her in your memory. I've dreamt about my dead grandpa and it was very emotional but pleasant at the same time.

Thankyou for explaining that to me. I'm glad to be part of the community and I'm a little surprised at how long I retained lucidity! Even seeing an entire city and actually briefly controlling my dreams felt amazing!

To Matty, I merely thought 'What if I'm dead and my sleeping body is dead?' and I KNEW I was sleeping and thought of my body yet I did not wake up.
