      Lucid dreams obstacles

Hi everyone, I would like to know if im getting into something I might fail at. Here s why. I have served in afghanistan with the canadian army. I came back from there severly injured and for about 2 years I went trough a lot of medical rehabilitaions and all. Lots of medication and I have been diagnos with PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) So I have a lot of nighmares, subconcious is working over time to get me trough this. I have to take medication to sleep. So that beeing said, can I still manage to practice and get to lucid dream? thank you

First of all, props to you and everybody else in military. Sorry for your injuries, hopefully you'll feel better soon.

You say you take medication to sleep, but I guess it's not hampering your dreaming, because you have nightmares. So I would guess that medication will not be a problem.

There are two main types of lucid dream induction:

      1. WILD (Wake Induced Lucid Dream) - you lay down to sleep and you pay attention to the falling asleep process, untill you see dreams formed behind your closed eyelids and you enter a dream while still aware, but your body is asleep). There are other ways to enter a dream this way, when you feel vibrations or other sensations.

But if your sleep aid is making you fall asleep fast and it doesn't let you ease into sleep so you can pay attention to the process, this method may not be for you.

      2. DILD (Dream Initiated Lucid Dream) - here you go to sleep normally and you realize you are dreaming while in a regular dream or nightmare. For this to happen, you have to practice doing reality checks, mantras and daytime awareness.

For both methods, writing your dreams in dream journal is very helpfull, because it helps you with dream recall.

Lucid dreaming is a good method to fight nightmares, because when in LD, you can change the dreamscape to your liking.
