Last night, I caught myself experiencing a DEILD between REM cycles and somehow stayed conscious throughout an entire ~3 hours of sleep before waking up again. It simply came out of nowhere, because I only have lucid dreams occasionally nowadays.

The experience seemed like forever. Though, I didn't bother taking much advantage. All I did was explore my dreams and had discussions with dream characters as I followed them around, while constantly checking my hands to make sure I was still dreaming. Talking to these dream entities gave me the feeling of a direct connection with my subconsciousness. We laughed with each other, discussed topics, related to each other, but I unfortunately can't remember any of the conversations at this point. My memory is hazy, but I do recall that all of the dreams took place at night, toggling from indoor to outdoor scenarios.

Even when the dreams transitioned, I somehow kept full awareness. The hand-checking trick never failed to re-ensure me; I remember my hands either having extra fingers or being distorted every time I checked. I was very surprised how long I kept going without waking up. No doubt it was the longest lucid period I've ever had. It was almost 5AM when I finally woke up. My DEILD must've occurred between 2-3AM, because I went to sleep a few hours before.

Has anyone else experienced such long lucid periods? Feel free to share.
