      are my dreams normal?

I am really attracted to the aspect of lucid dreaming because of how vivid these dreams are supposed to be. I have never had very vivid dreams. Like, at all. I'm 16, and all of my dreams seem to be so random and not clear at all. The weird thing is, I am not able to see in my dreams very well. It feels like there is a film over the dream that often makes it where I have a hard time understanding whats going on. I just made a dream journal, and I am trying to commit to this (I have done 4 or 5 reality checks today, and I need to get better, I know.) I made a dream journal yesterday, but this morning, my dream was so vague that I didn't know what to write. Something about the state of Idaho? idk. Areal view. Something to do with a white mazda suv? I just get these flashes of clarity. Granted, I am in high school, going to sleep at 10 and waking at seven, but it seems like my dreams should be clearer than they are. Other things it could have to do with are that I am really adhd, and take amphetamines for it.

A couple months ago I tried to get into this, and my first night I was semi lucid (asked am i dreaming in the middle of it). I was staring into a mirror, looking at my teeth. They were made of thin glass, and were breaking. I pulled out many of my teeth, and the rest were jagged and mutilated. It was the most clear dream I have ever had, but it still was really unclear. At least it kinda made sense. Most of my dreams are just vague concepts. Please help me out.

Your dreams seem perfectly normal to me. Especially for someone who is just starting out and getting into lucid dreaming. It is exactly that your dreams are blurry, it's that you don't recall all the vividness and detail.

If you practice and work on your dream recall, you should find that the vividness of your dreams will go up. People have also reported vitamin B6 increases your dream vividness. You can find it in foods like bananas or cereal. Try increasing your intake of B6.

If you are in a lucid dream and everything is blurry, expect to find glasses laying around and put them on to increase clarity. Also just simply shouting "increase vividness" has been reported to help. Be creative and come up with techniques to improve vividness.

Be consistent with your technique and practicing reality checks and it will pay off eventually. Don't expect everything to work right away! Give it some time!

      Good luck!

Typo! Sorry. Meant to say it isn't exactly that your dreams are blurry. Sorry if that confused you!

I don't know how long you have been keeping a dream journal, but that really helped me. My dreams seemed to be kind of bland, but once I got into the habit of remembering and writing them down, my brain was like "Oh! This is important to you!" And I started having better recall (and found out that for the most part my dreams are not bland, my recall just sucked).

Melatonin also helped me have some of the most vivid and colorful dreams in my life, but I built up a tolerance really quickly. Something to keep in mind.

Do you know how long it takes for the tolerance to go away?

No I don't, but I assume it's different for everyone... just like getting the tolerance in the first place. I haven't tried it in a while, but maybe 7 months later I tried some and it didn't do anything. I didn't play around with it any, a higher dose or several times, so take that number with a grain of salt.

Increasing vividness? Eat some chickpeas! They're a good source of Vitamin B6 which helps making dreams more vivid. I know oneironauts that also suggest to try out Celea Zacatechichi - which brings amazing lucid dreams and non-lucid dream.

Other great sources of Vitamin B6 include:

      - Bananas
      - Cheese
      - Rice
      - Watermelons
      - Tuna
      - Boiled potatoes

I personally also had a hard time increasing vividness, and for me, setting a mantra to increase vividness worked well.

I have found that the more I write down my dreams, the more sense they make. Last night, my dream made perfect sense (still weird concept) but it had a plausible story line. It wasnt lucid, but as they get more and more vivid lding should get easier. thanks.

I don't like using supplements, so I would recommend more sleep and a mantra. Believing that your dreams will be as vivid as real life.
