      Unhappy Swallowing!

      Hey guys,

How do you come with swallowing?
I mean, best results in LDing comes from sleeping on your back. But when I do so, I keep swallowing like crazy, involuntarily. Even when there's no build-up of saliva, it just happens. As soon as I switch to a different position, it stops.

      Any suggestions?

There isn't really any definite position one should sleep in. What matters most is the comfort. Sleep in a comfortable position, no matter what it is. It is truly different for everyone. Even I sleep in fetal position with my arm over my head.

If you choose to stick with laying on your back, my advice would be to not pay attention to the swallowing. It's natural, and when it happens, just let it be and don't think about it too much.

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

If you were not WILDing, you would fall asleep, no matter how much you swallow. The only difference is, that when you falling asleep normally, you don't even notice swallowing, scratching, or moving. But when you WILD, you do notice, because you worry it will ruin your attempt.

It will ruin it, only if you let it all bother you. If you don't pay attention to it, it will not matter and it will not ruin anything.

And I had WILDs on my back and also on sides. Whichever position is most comfortable to you, use that one.

As said above, it is only a problem if you make it a problem...
I used to lay still on my back, and when the swallowing reflex kicked in i would tense up like crazy to try and prevent that.
Just relax your jaw and swallow without thinking like you would normally, just remember it is ONLY a problem if you make it a problem, it's the attention you put into preventing it that keeps you awake.

I ran into this problem as well, every time I felt my body starting to go numb and my dream about to kick in I had to swallow and it would in turn wake me up more each time I had to swallow.

Some great advice in this thread, thanks.
