      My reason for lucid dreaming

Hello, I'm pretty new here and to lucid dreaming in general, (I just had my first last night, finally, all ten seconds of it!!!).

My reasons for lucid dreaming, after discovering it are a bit different but I really hope there is somebody out there who can relate in some way.

I am 35 years old and have battled BiPolar depression for years. It has gotten worse with age but at the same time, I seem to manage it better and have been able to tackle it through my knowledge of the disease.

Not to bore you with all the details but if I can metaphorically connect with my sub conscience, perhaps I can work on problems in a "simulated" universe. In a manner of speaking, find ways to combat the illness at the center of the problem. Take control of my dreams, take control of my life.

Any thoughts, ideas, or related stories? Please comment or PM me.

Sounds entirely plausible me, in Jungian Psychology it is believed that in each person there is a manifestation ones own rejected personality attributes named, the shadow. Their are some accounts suggesting you can interact with your shadow for better or worse in your dreams. Of course all of this is theoretical and not substantiated with hard scientific evidence.

Just keep in mind LD'ing is difficult and utilizing it for your purposes may take some time.

This isn't exactly beyond dreaming material, alot of people use dreaming to combat depression or other illnesses.

I believe that dreams are the perfect medium to deal with an illness, while they may not solve the problem they can give a sense of achievement and control that barely anything comes close to. The added fact that lucid dreams are absolutely exhilerating helps too.
