Is lucid dreaming something that improves?

I don't normally ask questions but this just came to mind when I woke up. Is lucid dreaming a hobby that you can improve? If you ask me I would say it varies. But lets say that you reality check constantly for 10 years would you master lucid dreaming and have a lucid dream every night? Can that be achieved? Obviously with WILD that's a different story because it is possible to get lucid every night. I believe that eventually lucid dreams would become so natural, that your mind would see them as normal. What does everyone else think?

I think if you were persistent it would. I think the reason it varies a lot is because people's motivation constantly changes, so some times you are working hard and some times you are slacking off and not doing reality checks very often. It usually improves quickly when you are consistent but also fades quickly when you slack off.

I think it is pretty hard to be putting 100% effort in for 10 years straight but if you did do it, I am sure you would be really good.

I don't see why it can't be a skill that can be improved. But having direct control over the mind to be able to induce them at will would be another story I think. If the mind became accustomed to them often, it could become easier to trigger them I would think, but I don't know about direct control/induction of an LD.

I am not a very experienced lucid dreamer, however, I can say with firm conviction (and a good deal of evidence to back it up) that lucid dreaming is indeed a skill that you can get continually better at. At one point will you have a LD everynight? Maybe not, but there are a few posters on DV that seem to have 4 - 5 LD's a week (If you want to acheive this, be prepared to invest a lot of your time learning and practicing).
There will always be something to improve upon ofcourse, but for the most part, yes, LDing is very much a hobby that you will become ever more skillful at if you work at it.

I think about lucid dreaming not as an single skill, but rather as a group of skills. There are different methods, and even if you are skilled in one, you might totally fail with another, then there is dream control and dream stabilization, etc.
Ofcourse they improve if you work towards improving them and put motivation into them.

Yes! As your knowledge expands and your experiences increase, the amount of Lucids you have will increase. Same goes for control, remembering dreams, etc. The key is being confident and persistent.

I agree with the general consensus here. With my own personal experience, the more thought and pure devotion I put into my lucid dreaming research and technique, the better results I get over an extended period of time. When I stop trying of course the reward of better dream control, lucid length, and other great things will diminish rather quickly. The one thing I love about lucid dreaming is that it does make you go that extra mile if you truly want to experience the best that the human mind can offer; the most pure and natural "Enter the Matrix" type entertainment. Since lucid dreaming is based solely on dedication, in most cases, the truth is that a lot of people will not get to have the great addition of lucid dreaming in their lives. Its sad I know, but thinking about things like that just make me that much happier when I do get to toss mountains around, and fly through the many hills and valleys one might encounter in a dreamscape. Its a thing that we who can dedicate ourselves to achieving lucidity should think about more often really, people all around me throughout the years have brought up the topic of virtual reality in the electronic sense of course, and I am sure you might have just encountered a few of these people yourselves in your own time.

I just cant convey to a majority of these people that it does exist and that we all have access to it with a little bit of research and practice. If some people would just slow down and stop looking for strictly outside means of entertainment, and start searching inside and exploring what the human mind really has to offer; I think the world would be a much better place and I'm sure some of you would agree. After all, we do live in a time in which we cannot yet explore the boundless mass of space all around this rock we call home, which has also been pretty much fully explored but us explorers still have something to "explore" and we seem to have been born in just the right time for it too. It is our very own minds, and it has a lot to offer. I do apologize for getting a bit off topic, but I do think that some of the talk here might be alright, hopefully sparking some good conversation. Above all, at the very least I hope that we can all give our lucid selves a pat on the back after all the hard work and dedication we've put in to get where we are today in lucid dreaming terms. Beginners or Pros, we all deserve it.. Go ahead its alright!

Yes it improves over time, i'm living proof!
I completely agree with Mancon and the others on this.

It's not just that it gets easier to do as you learn more about yourself but you also get better and how you use yoru lucid time too.

this all depends on how dedicated you are tho same as anything else you learn.

Yes! Most definitely. You need to find out what the core of what makes you lucid. You finding things close to it helps too. If I wake up after every REM period and get up for a second, I will most likely have a lucid or two. I keep not getting up though. I need confidence of course and my mantra as well as some daytime awareness and some meditating, but I am trying to find out exactly which helps the most as well as what in my dreams makes me lucid. They all have something in common, I just need to find it.

Also WILD definitely gets better with practice, notably.

I think so, yeah. Because I see reality checks as habits and as days go by, your habit is gonna become a stronger habit and thus more chances of doing it in a dream and asking "am I in a dream" and becoming aware.
