Huh, I wonder if anybody would know such a thing as studies in this area might not be so popular. I am not sure if belief is the problem. I had this problem in one dream but in another dream, I hover through a wall with no problem. Assuming the dream world to be a product of the brain, I would say the mind may not have allowed it.

Good luck with it next time.

You've gotten used to how the world works, this will still apply in dreams and you'll always have doubts on some level when you're starting out. There's a difference between knowing you can do it, and knowing you can do it. If you've done something in a dream before it gets easier. But your instincts know that you can't walk through a table, even if you know it's possible in the dream, the fact that you haven't done much of that before makes it a bit hard for you to fully believe in it.

If everything would be possible right away then we wouldn't need to practice Dream Control. Passive or active. And the entire sub-forum "Dream Control" would be merged with "Lucid Experiences".

I do it randomly in lucids when I am not thinking about. It just takes practice. You need belief, but you also need to imagine it happening as well (IMO). For me imagining flying is hard, and when I jump I know exactly what that feels like, so I know exactly when I should be coming down. It is annoying. Some things come easy to some and harder to others. Telekinesis is easy for me, fire is easy, flying is freaking hard. I pretty much have to jump out of a flying car to do it. :/

Practice, practice, practice. It is just fun to practice this because you are in an LD, so don't let it get to you!

Don't think about how to do it. Don't think about walking through the table at all. Think about walking to the window on the other side of a table. As if table was not there at all.

I frequently fly out through closed window. But it happened a few times, that the window felt solid. Not sure why it behaves differently in some dreams, since my thinking seems to be the same each time (that I have no problem walking through solids). So it's quite likely that you will have some dreams with no problem and some with difficulty walking through solid objects.

I would try walking into a mirror or walking through a window first. A table seems like a strange thing to want to walk through. What is the point of that? It would be more fun to walk through a wall or walk through another person and see how they react. I don't mean to put down anyone's specific goals though. A table just seems like a weird place to start.
