I haven't mastered flying yet but I can tell you this. When I was doing it, I tried too hard and I thought about it too much. The most I could do was jump over a 2 story house. But I can relate it to telekinesis which I mastered in my first LD. I did it by just doing it without thinking. at no point did I think "Hmmm, I wonder how I could do telekinesis.", I just went up to things and picked it up with my mind and moved it. I just knew it was going to happen. So if you try this with flying, just take off and expect it to work. I find that if I think about how to do something too much, I make it harder and harder for myself.

This is just my opinion. See what works for you

JUMP HIGH AND FLY!!!

I did it in my second lucid, but I had hard time steering so if you're gonna follow me, make sure there are no high buildings in front of you xDD
Step on the edge of a window of a high building and just let yourself fall. Then after few secs try to pull yourself up (just like pilots do with planes). You should then stabilize yourself and fly normally. My experience

Grow wings, that's how i first time experienced flight in an lucid dream, though it might be a bit harder than other techniques for some.

I have a red cape that I keep in my back pocket. Whenever I want to fly I just reach for it and put it on, and I can fly upwards all I want.

I'm a fanatic of flight and anything related to flying, so it pretty much came natural to me. I've only had about 4 LD's thus far and in every one I jump through a window or just jump strait into the sky and voila. Good luck, its so much fun.
