      Question I don't know if i am near or far to get a LD anymore :(

      Hey DV, i am really starting to question myself how far i am or how near i am to get a LD.
      Well this is because. Sometimes i have false lucid dreams (Dreaming about being lucid
      but i am not) and when i posted if FLDs would be a good progress some users told me
      i was near to get a LD. And i was very happy indeed.

      but on the last week, i don't got any FLDs anymore, but normal dreams.
      And sometimes i couldn't even remember what i dreamt about.

      How is this even possible? shouldn't my dream capacity or my brain get more vivid dreams?
      after a FLD or even a lucid dream? but it seems like i just started doing this today.
      can't even remember what i dreamt or i get normal dreams with no vividness.
      What is wrong?

      Hiya Slenerim

      I assume that by FLD you mean false lucid dream, or something of the sort?
      It seems you were pretty close, by this i mean that LD'ing was obviously on your mind for you to have these dreams. What i would suggest is firstly, dont get discouraged. All of us here are fully aware of how frustrating it can be to feel like your close and then have it slip away.

      Unfortunetley, it doesn't work in the way that once you get up to a caertain level you stay there. Things can happen that knock you off your so-called "Path to lucidity" Nothing is wrong at all, everybody experiences spikes and falls in dream recall, just keep your head up, keep plugging away and you'll be lucid in no time

      Simply because you can breathe, doesn't mean your alive, or that you really live....

      Sienerim, Our mind both conscious and unconscious is unpredictable and complex. Each one of us has their own journey to learning any new skill, and with every new skill the journey may be different even for the same person. Sometimes we learn by steady progress, sometimes we make sudden leaps and bounds, and sometimes it is two steps forward and one step back. There are several contradictory factors going on: you are determined to do this, you are learning more and more, but your mind may be hung up on the fact that this is outside of its experience to date, or you may be trying too hard and the stress this causes is inhibiting your success, or all the effort with very little reward for it this far may seem to your mind not worth it, you may just need a break before continuing on full steam ahead, though a break could also be a mistake on another hand giving your mind the excuse to give up. If I were you, I would try to be patient. Lucid dreaming does have a steep learning curve for some people (while for others it comes naturally, not fair right?).

      You are not mentioning if you write your dreams in a dream journal. DJ is very important to build up a good recall. It helps to tell your mind that dreaming and remembering your dreams is important to you. If you don't have one, start a DJ. You will see a huge jump in your recall.

      The more you think about dreaming, more it will reflect in your dreams. You will start noticing FAs more (and if you not thinking about dreaming, then less FAs). You will notice your dreams are getting more detailed and vivid and as you becoming more aware in your dreams. Not in all of them though.

      Increasing daytime awareness is also important for you to start realizing in your dreams that you are dreaming. Check out some awareness tutorials.

      Sometimes dream recall can be rather unstable, it's hard to predict but there's some stuff exists to help to restore it.
      Firstly, as gab said, dream journal will help if you don't already using it, secondly, think positive and use an mantra before sleep to increase dream recall("I will remember more dreams" or something similar), you should be able to boost recall that way and the restore it.
      And don't be discouraged about what's happening, as long as you are confident, practice and think about lucidity more or less regularly you /are/ getting closer to an LD even if your dreams are trying to confuse you.

      Yeah i do have a dream journal with 36 pages full of my dreams.
      But looks like my ability for dream recall is decreasing too, i could remember
      like 2 dreams per night before, now i barely can remember 1.

      How long have you been lucid dreaming, sorry, trying to lucid dreaming ? I think you are taking steps back. It's not because you wanted to or something. You still may have goal to start lucid dreaming but after some times of trying your motivation is not that strong as when you started.. It's normall. Nothing is forever. Even when you will be able to have LD every day, after sometimes, when you run out of idea what to do, you will stop. The best think you can do about it is to find something that will increase you motivation. Every night befor sleep, thing about LD, refresh your motivation, thing what's you goal, what you want to do when you have one. why you doing it. It works but you need to do it at least once a day.

      Well, every night before i fall asleep i try to visualise what i will do when i dream
      but for some reason my visualizing skills aren't too good and i just visualize something like:
      "When i dream i will do a reality check" This will lead for a false lucid dreaming :/

      I already had 3 False lucid dreamings, so i think i am getting closer to have a LD.

      If you are expecting that you will have FLD instead of LD, maybe you need to try to visualise that when you are dreaming about lucid dream, you do RC, and then you became lucid. Maybe it will work and you will remeber to do that. You need to be more suspicious. Even when you (actually your brain) think that you are lucid dreaming you need to check it, do RC to confirm that.

      Portuguese people \o/ I'm sorry, but I hear about so few of them participating in this communities

      First of all, it's almost impossible to determine when you'll have you next lucid dream unless you WILD. Most DILDs relate to specific causes that are verified and up triggering a lucid dream. Some reasons people have a DILD:

      - Dream incubation (intentional or not intentional);
      - Prospective memory;
      - Residual memory;
      - Pattern recognition;
      - Brain chemistry;

      Second of all, having great dream recall don't mean that you are automatically set for having lucid dreams. Many people forget that in order to strengthen the connection between dream recall and lucid dream you need to work with your dreams. This can mean actively looking for dream signs, finding patters in them, identifying the possible reasons why you didn't become lucid, among others.
      On another note, just because your dream recall isn't great it doesn't mean that you're far from lucid dreams. Even many of expert lucid dreamers have loads of dreams in which they don't achieve lucidity, and you're just starting!

      Try to focus on dream journalling and some technique and don't worry when the lucid dream is about to come, it will come eventually, but there's no way to predict when.
