      Tips for Reality Checking

I found this helpful and thought I would pass it along. It's very straightforward, but is easily overlooked. Regarding RCs, remember to do these simple, yet important things:

ALWAYS perform an RC when something strange happens, something startles you, or you feel a strong emotion, such as excitement, anger, fear, etc...
You phone the radio station and won a contest. Do an RC! You went through the drive through at Tim Horton's and the car in front of you paid for your order. Do an RC! You found out you're pregnant. Do an RC! You just about got into an accident. Do an RC! You read something that didn't make sense. Do an RC! You get the idea...

PERFORM the RC S-L-O-W-L-Y. Take your time and really examine your world. An RC shouldn't take too much time, but neither should it be a passing gesture. Really notice detail around you. If you look at your hands, look intently! Really try to add another finger! If you pinch your nose, breathe through your nose at least TWICE first, and THEN pinch it, expecting the SAME result. If you read text, read a line and really notice everything, punctuation included. Don't rush through it.

ALWAYS ask yourself if you are dreaming when you do an RC. Use the word DREAMING. Don't ask rhetorically, but ask with the intent to find an answer. It may sound strange, since you KNOW you are not dreaming, but when you ARE dreaming, you will not know that you are. Therefore a rhetorical question will not get answered.

EXPECT your RC to FAIL as you tell yourself you are dreaming when it does, and imagine how STRANGE it would feel when it DOES fail. In the dream, you will feel strange that something actually worked that shouldn't have. Expecting an RC to fail may sound strange, but if you expect it to pass, your subconscious may make it pass in your dream, or you'll come up with a strange rationalization as to why it failed.

Like I said, very straightforward, and most of you probably already do these things religiously, but sometimes after doing RCs for days or weeks on end, we can make them a mundane routine. THAT is what we DON'T want!

(You had better have done an RC just now!)

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

Another thing to add would be to do multiple reality checks so your brain doesn't get used to doing only one.
