      Is Reality Checking Enough?

What else can I do to become aware that I'm dreaming?

SD: I've tried remembering how I got to where I am

RC's on themselves can get you lucid, but in my experience, not that often. It's different for each of us though. As you have probably heard already, keeping a DJ helps a lot (online, in a rl notebook, doesnt really matter). I personally like ADA a lot (thread by kingyoshi). It takes a while to master, but it can get you lucid every night once completely mastered. It's probably a good idea to experiment a little with techniques. Don't stop too soon though. It usually takes around 1 month or more before you can say with certainty that a technique doesn't work for you.

Another thing that i like to do besides RC, that seems not to be too common, is naming places. No matter where you are in a dream, lucid or not, theres always a setting. So when you wakeup, describe the place in your journal. After having many many dreams recorded, ive noticed that there are specific places that i dream at often. One of mine, for example, is a junkyard type setting. Its always at night. Knowing this now, i decided to name the place. I call it Limbo. And whenever i see this place, it dawns on me im dreaming.

Its almost as fail proof as reality checks while dreaming, for me anyway. Just thought ide share, good luck to you!
You see things and say, 'Why?", but I dream things and say, 'Why not?

in both of my stable good ld's the RC did the job, some people become lucid though and then do the RC as insurance.

Here's a little trick I have learned. Read some passages of your DJ directly before going to sleep. Why? Because our big human brain assimilates the days experiences during dreams, including reading your DJ. Reading your DJ can make you hype-aware of things that can only happen in dreams. So, lets say, when you see an elephant fly in your dream state you might (and I emphasize might) see this as something that can only happen in a dream. Good luck to you!

I only do reality checks as a confirmation, it rarely gets me lucid. I have really good dream signs, which appear in pretty much all of my dreams. Anything to do with a body of water, even a pool can make me realize I am dreaming. That, and a guitar, normally I am the one playing

I'm the same as Texture; I've never become lucid by doing a reality check. I've only had LDs from suddenly realizing that I'm dreaming, then doing an RC to confirm. Practice awareness, slow down every once in a while and just observe things, asking yourself if you're dreaming. There's more about it in my DILD tutorial, if you're interested in reading it.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I don't really R.C., but I don't have lucids. So maybe there's my problem. A large majority of my dreams are connected to games, as I play alot. I end up on certain maps in my dreams that appear in games I frequently play, and yet I never notice that it's a dream. So I think another good reality check is to do one when you meet/arrive/have/see/etc a dreamsign in real life, and do it often.

So from now on, whenever I play my games, I try not to get sucked into them, and I do R.C.s all the time.

Well I say that in the past tense, but really I'm just thinking of doing that right now.

All I have to do is think about lucid dreaming a lot, and I often get lucid dreams. More often, to.

It is enough to have Lucids. But I don't think it's enough to lucid all the time.

Try using mantras and meditating. That's what I do.

I was always a dreamer, in childhood especially. People thought I was a little strange.-Charley pride

same here. I never do RC. i just know. and yes, meditation and raising awareness in general work wonders. find a method of meditation that works best for you, whether searching online, in a book, or going to an actual meditation temple. do it before you go to sleep. i'd say a lot of what has already been posted on this thread should help immensely. and good luck!!
