Getting leg cramp when levitating in lucid dreams

Whenever I have a lucid dream in which I successfully start levitating, I almost immediately get a lower leg cramp in my one of my real world legs which forces me awake. Does anyone have a valid explanation for this?

I suppose this could be used as a test for whether I am lucid dreaming, but I would rather it wasn't.

The first thing that comes to my mind is that you are focusing so hard to levitate that you are actually flexing your leg while you sleep. Next time you try to levitate, try to not use your legs as your levitation point. Right now, do you tell yourself that its your legs lifting you into flight? Try to tell your mind that its your hands, or the sky pulling you upwards.

Let me know if that works! Good luck!

Chop off your legs when in the dream. You don't need them, they don't exist.

Its feels more as if I am shifting my whole body in a certain direction by willpower. Levitating isn't difficult for me to do compared to trying to shoot bolts of electricity from my fingers which truly gives me brain strain. I do not focus on bouncing or lifting with my legs into the air.

      I've got an idea..

When we do things in dreams, our brains are firing signals/neurons the same way they would in real life. Luckily we have REM atonia to keep us from acting out our dreams. Maybe when you start levitating, your dreaming mind puts too much effort (you might be aware or not) into the sensation in your legs that you actually end up feeling it in your physical body—like how many people end up opening their eyes if they close and reopen them in dreams. Or perhaps you just start levitating at the end of your rem period where your atonia wears off and coincides with your dreaming mind still thinking about levitating, so you feel sensations in your leg.

Just an idea, might not be a valid explanation though, sorry

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

Maybe you are concentrating on it too much physically? If yes, maybe try concentrating less and use more passive dream control. Also check out this tutorial if you haven't already: http://www.dreamviews.com/articles/7...-tutorial.html
