Overwhelming sense of dread in a lucid dream

Hello, I have recently experience my first few lucid dreams but am unsure if this is a normal thing to experience.

During my most recent dream I ended up trying to reveal to a character that it was, infact, all a dream. Even when I began to think about it the characters (my real life friends) started to shy away from me but eventually I pinned one against a wall and told him.

The reaction to this was extremely uncomfortable they all started moving away and I heard one say "what did say??" to which someone repiled "I don't know, something about dreams..". They were acting somewhat irritated and began to look at me strangely.

All of a sudden I experienced what I can only describe as an overhelming feeling of existential dread. I tried to distract from having asked mentioned dreams by continuing to play football as we had previously but it didn't work and some of the people started to contort and turn into strange indistinct figure.

Is this a normal thing to feel when speaking to dream characters about dreaming?

      Hello, welcome to Dreamviews.

Just wondering, this particular dream was non-lucid, right? I wasn't sure since you mentioned having your first few lucid dreams, then you spoke about this dream. It can be confusing sometimes, especially if in the dream you are talking about lucid dreaming. Many of us even have dreams where we tell ourselves it's a dream and try to convince other characters, yet we don't really get that it's a dream, you know what I mean?

Non-lucidity in this particular dream might explain why you had that dread feeling, since it is totally normal in non-lucids to have random bursts of extreme emotion, just as it is totally normal to be catapulted into a suddenly different dream scene without thought or motive. Anyway, it is nothing to worry about, unless it starts happening very frequently, which might be caused by some underlying issue like real life stresses.

As for speaking to dream characters, yes it is normal for them to react that way. You might wanna check this thread out, for fun: http://www.dreamviews.com/general-lu...reactions.html

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

      It was definitely lucid.

Another strange thing is that in my two previous lucid dreams (this was my third) I was able to fly around and teleport to different places but there were no other people around.

In this dream I even told someone I can teleport us somewhere else but even though I open and closed my eyes, as in the previous two, and imagined a place it didn't work. I also tried to fly and that didn't work either.

Thanks, Interesting to see that dream characters can behave oddly. Though their reaction was strange in itself, the odd thing was really the uncanny sense of terror that immediately seemed to overtake reality.

I was just going to bed but before I go, here are some threads that might help you like it helped me:

The terror isn't uncommon btw. Many times (almost always, really), even though we are lucid, the full implications don't really sink in. We know it's a dream, yet we have that little natural instinct that insists laws of physics still apply, or moral/ethical rules still apply. Maybe for some people (such as yourself), it creates a much more emotional impact when the lucid barrier isn't completely overriden?

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.
