First Lucid Dream!! - surprisingly easy to do

This may belong in the DJ, but it's my first LD and I have a question about it.

In my dream, I began to recall my dreams from that night so that I could write them down in my journal. I was in a barn with a guy I work with. I asked him to help me recall my dreams because I knew he was a DC. At this point, I already knew I was dreaming. (I had known off and on a while in this dream, which makes me wonder why I didn't go lucid sooner). I thought for a second and reminded myself of my goal to LD. I yelled because I was so excited, "I'm dreaming, I'm dreaming!", and I punched my co-worker in the back of the head. He was laughing about it though because I was so excited. Immediately after that, I became really dizzy and I focused on my pinkys for some reason. My hands were shrinking away and I thought I was going to wake up. I did a couple pirouettes and went back to focusing, this time on my thumbs. Everything seemed to stabilize OK. I started running around like a maniac jumping and trying to fly. I kept landing on my face. I reminded myself that I just had to believe in it. It was that easy, I jumped out of the barn down a steep hill and began to fly. I woke up shortly after.

I am pumped about LDing for the first time, but I did it without any reality checks. I knew I was dreaming already, and I realized that in most dreams, I seem to already know I'm dreaming, but they are not Lucid. So how can I remind myself to go lucid when I already know I'm dreaming??

Going luucid is knowing you are dreaming, not controlling your dreams. That's a bonus. If you know you are dreaming, but it doesn't "click in", you dreamt about being lucid. Not doing RC's is ok, they're not the main way to become lucid.

So if I know I'm dreaming, but it doesn't "click in", is it a lucid dream or not? There was a distinct difference with the dream before and after the point in which I became "lucid" and stabilized. Even though before that point, I knew I was in a dream.

Nope, that means you dreamt about LDing. You'll know when everything comes into focus, and you can shout IM DREAMING and be like this:

I guess I'm a little lost. I don't think I would say that I dreamt about LDing. It was a dream like any other, I just knew I was dreaming at some points and didn't do anything about it until the end when I actually became lucid.

He's saying the only part that counts as dreaming lucidly is the when you "clicked" into the dream and stabilized. The other parts of your dream you weren't fully aware that you were in a dream. Otherwise it would have clicked a lot sooner.

But congrats on your first lucid!

Yes, last night I knew I was dreaming but after a few seconds really became aware and said Hey! I'm dreaming!" Then I was in control. So I track my "close calls" because I sometimes know without "realizing", or see obvious dream signs thatt cause me to think "thats weird", but dont quite trigger lucidity. Close calls are for me very vivid..not quite LD but more vivid than most.

Right. I too know I am dreaming but I am not aware enough to react to that fact. But anyway we all agree that until that 'aaah haaa!' moment occurs you are not lucid, and there's a BIG difference. Congrats. Yes, lucid dreaming is easy in one sense, but for most, difficult to replicate as frequently as one would like.

I'm sure it will still take a lot of work for me to have consistent frequency, but I am hoping that I will be better able to recognize it now that I've done it once.

That sounds awesome, I hope the first time I LD I'll be that excited too
Since I've never had a LD before I wouldn't really know how to answer your question but I'm sure if you already know you're dreaming you just have to give yourself a push to get up and control it.

Oh, you will. Believe me, you will. With control, think "i can do anything, this is my dream". Truly believe it, and win.Consistency: i currently get a DILD each 2 days, sometimes one day, after my 5th. Don't worry, they get quite consistent over time. Although my vividness went skydiving, but that's . So...

You had your first lucid dream indeed, congratulations. Despite you only knowing vaguely that you're dreaming, that you perform dream control or not, or even if the lucidity lasts 2 seconds, it's still a lucid. The degrees of lucidity depend on many factors, it's something you can easily improve with time
