      Fearful of LDing

      Hello DV community!

I apparently have a very irrational fear of lucid dreaming that ill suddenly think of something that i will find very horrible, and itll come alive in the dream. I know its stupid, and it never has happened to me before, but i cant seem to stop having this fear. Whenever i do wbtb, i end up being afraid of actually lding.

I have this fear too (although much milder than you're describing) so I know that feel, bro.
You should try your best to go to bed relaxed so that your mind doesn't end up wandering to stressful things. Also, I know that this is probably a given, but try to think about stuff that you find enjoyable and that you can think about for a while so your mind doesn't wander too far. If this stuff doesn't work, then just try to remember that if you face something scary in a lucid dream, it can't hurt you, and it's a good opportunity to possibly conquer said fear.

Make a plan of what you want to do in a lucid. Then daydream about it. Make up a story you want to experience. Do you want to be part of your favorite anime or videogame? Or just walk down the beach or forest meadow? Daydream about that. Think about how beautifull and cool it will be.

Do the WBTB, and when WILDing, recall your daydream and continue with it. Know, that no matter what will happen, nothing can hurt you. There is a very good chance, that you will be so occupied with your pleasant thought, that you will not have time to be scared. And if some scary thought pops up, just let it be, say to yourself that it's ok, you are not scared, you are safe in your bed.

Even if this won't work on the first try, the more times you try, you will see that really nothing scary is happening. Every next try you will be more confident.

And if I understand your post correctly, you have never experienced anything scary while WILDing, so your worry is hypothetical. Don't let something that will probably never happen ruin your LDing, even before it started. happy dreams

@dragongirl253 Thanks for the help! I seem to have a problem being relaxed, so ill try meditating and to think of calm thoughts before going to sleep. Also, i do try to remember its just a dream. In fact, just last night, during a wbtb i felt good enough to ld, but i laid and laid in bed, and the sun came up to ruin everything. Ill get it eventually, though. Again, thanks.

@gab That's an interesting suggestion. Ill try to daydream about lding more, so ill be less occupied with the stupid fears that go on in my head during wbtb. Also, ive never actually had a successful WILD before, probably cus most of my attempts were in the middle of the day. Ive had MILDs and DEILDs, but ive heard WILDs were best. Thanks for the advice.

That's the spirit =) You just gotta keep at it; practice makes perfect! Or, in this case, it makes... Dreams come true. B-/ (I am so sorry for the awful pun.)

You know I've really noticed I really don't think in dreams. Like, I don't have thoughts. Lucid or not. In a dream I tend to literally think out loud, as in I have no thoughts. So I don't think bad thoughts will randomly appear in LDs. And if they do, remember you have the power to do ANYTHING. If you spawn something hellish, beat the crap out of it. You've got all the power in the universe in a lucid dream!

it could be that you are new to lucid dreaming, maybe you should wait till you have a month of experience and see if you still have that fear.

      1. A nap is actually one of the best times for a LD. Especially for a WILD. Provided, that it's not too long since you woke up in the morning. How much is too long? That is something everybody has to find out on his own. For me it's 45min - 3 hours.

      2. WILD can be the best, but only if you mastered the basics. And most of the time you master the basics by learning to DILD. That's because the basics are the same for both inductions. But if you jump straight into WILD, thinking all it takes is just lay in bed until you get a lucid, you miss out on awareness, RCs, mantras...

While yes, you lay in bed until you get lucid, but there is so much more preparation work to be done way before that.

WILD (sageous) mental preparation. I would really recommend reading the whole tutorial.
