      Was this a lucid dream?

Last night I had this weird dream. I can't remember all of it but parts of it. The first part of what I remember is that I was in a environment surrounded by mountains, running through a broken bridge. I thought it was real life, it was so realistic, I genuinely thought I was there. The bridge collapsed and I'm suddenly in a room in a grey room much like a cell. Without realising it I'm on my knees begging this girl that I came from a parallel universe in which we were together. In the dream I genuinely believed, my heart was pumping fast then. I know this sounds stupid but would you say this was a lucid dream? What does this mean? Am I close to lucid dreaming?

      Welcome to Dreamviews, rivert!

It sounds like lucid, if you say you really thought you were there. Does it mean, you knew you are not dreaming?

Thanks. I didn't know I was dreaming until I woke up. I thought it was real life.

Yeah, you see, the only requirement for a dream to be lucid is, that while you are in the dream, you realize you are dreaming.

So with your explanation, this sounds like a very vivid and realistic non-lucid dream.

Realistic dreams can happen at any time, but they are more often, when you are thinking about lucid dreaming and practicing. That's when you may get more vivid and detailed dreams, with maybe even a touch of awareness, but without realization that you are dreaming. These are non-lucids. After some practice, you may get the awareness and you will realize you are dreaming while in the dream.

Many people get the "whoa, I'm dreaming" incredible excitement when they realize. Good luck with your practice
