You have received some great replies. My dreams are also pretty much normal. Raising your daytime awareness will help though. That way you will be more aware in all our dreams, no matter how plain or bizarre.
Doing RCs at random times, not only when something strange/unexpected happens can get you lucid at any moment in a regular dream.

To be honest, Ryanshep's question is not all that common and I don't think it is really discussed in detail in any tutorial. If you know of one, maybe you could link?
There is nothing wrong with asking questions. Even after reading all the tutorials, there will always be something that needs to be further explained. Often, just reading the same answer, only worded with different words helps someone to understand better. That's why we are here.
