      Different levels of dream consciousness

      I would like to hear about your experiences with differing levels of consciousness within a dream.

      For example, in dreams I have experienced these;

      1) None – I am completely controlled by my dream, I am not aware of any choices that I make, I just follow the dream as it happens around me.
      2) Minimal (decision)– I am able to make decisions in the dream (with no awareness that I am dreaming), so I need onions for a salad, so I decide to go and look in the garden.
      3) Some (choice) – I may be experiencing something that I do not like so I decide to change it (make the person I do not like go away, or change where the dream is occurring) – I am not lucid as such, but there is a choice occurring, with a feeling similar to what I get when I make choices in waking life.
      4) More (action)– (again, not yet lucid) I decide I want sex, so I look around me for someone attractive, and then go and, um, well... you know... Or I want to meet a friend, so I make them just appear in front of me
      5) Some lucidity – I am aware that I am dreaming, but things happen that are beyond my direct control – I want a pair of sunglasses and notice a DC (dream character) wearing some nice ones, so I ask him for them, but he says no and I have to convince him to give them to me.
      6) Full lucidity – I am aware that the above-mentioned DC character is not real so I make him give me the sunglasses just by thinking it. Or I just make some appear in my hand. At this level of lucidity I can control everything – change scenery, make people appear or disappear, fly, do anything I want etc

      Yep, that sums it up.

      With more lucidity, though, I find the dreams will be more tactile and difficult to maintain. Later stages, while developing more lucidity (not enough to know what is actually happening), erotic or antagonistic scenarios tend to occur. By antagonistic, I mean having to run away from a monster, or having to resolve some other pressing issue.

      Good observation.
