      Question Alternate Life

Hey everyone, im back after a long break and eager to dive right towards LD yet again, but was pondering an interesting question.

So my High School English teacher once kept a DJ and we talked a lot about LD and what have you. At one point in time she said she stopped LD'ing and using her DJ because she couldn't tell the difference between reality and dreaming anymore, her dreams became so vivid to the level in which she couldn't see reality anymore. FYI she had been using a DJ for about 1 1/2 of a year so it was a strong recall.

Now the question i was pondering was if I started an alternate life within my dreams, will it seem real other than the dream properties?
By that i mean when i dream every night will i return to the point i was the previous?

For example: The first night i start this dream i have a unique family of 4 who went to fight a dragon, but we stopped by an armory to gear up. If i dreamed the second day would i go back to where i left off? Can i Lucid dream in chronological order and develop feelings and attachments as i do in reality? I want to be able to live normally and when night comes live the dream life with whoever and however i want. I want the romance in the movies and books, the epic fights of mythological creatures but keep it all in order like a story. But idk if it is possible.

Please give honest feed back, very curious about the possibility of this feat and guides/strategies to get this to work would be helpful .

P.S. I just got back into LD'ing so am i bit rusty and am aware i need to keep a DJ for a couple months for them to become extremely vivid.

1: I doubt it very much so. I can mistake a dream for reality, but I cannot mistake reality for a dream.
2: It is possible to have what are called "persistent worlds", which are basically dreams worlds that you can return to and pick up where you left off. However, it all depends on how much you remember of the world. The less you remember, the less accurate the world will be the next time around. Extremely complicated worlds with interlocking story lines would probably be very difficult to maintain, but I suppose it is possible if you make it a point to remember every detail that occurred the previous night.

So you're saying if i get to a point in which my dream recall is extremely potent and for example write down where i leave off each night and review it the next before dreaming it may be possible?

Or another possibility, would i be able to live a whole life and experience an entire story within one dream? Will it last that long?

It's possible but again, it's much harder than it sounds. Just remembering dreams is hard enough, trying to recreate them on demand can be far more difficult.
As for the possibility of living a whole life in one dream, I do not have the answer to that. What you are describing is extreme time dilation and not every lucid dreamer (including myself) believes it's possible. Others swear they have experienced it and given the subjective and currently-inaccessible nature of our brains/dreams, no one can really prove them wrong at this point. If you want to read more upon this topic I suggest looking no further than the advanced search button as it's been debated about many times over on these very forums.

In order to get that dream world to repeat itself, you'd have to create it every single time you become lucid, or attempt to remember where you left off before.

It would be a challenge. I've created a dream island I can return to whenever I become lucid. It's just a grassy plain floating in space. It's just a starting point for what I want to do in the dream. Something like that is easy to remember and create at first, as compared to creating an entire world.

What you're trying to do is definitely possible, it would just take a lot of quality practice. Start with simple things like recreating part of the environment. You'd be surprised how hard it is just to summon a person properly. Gradually move up until you can recreate your entire environment in your lucid dream, then add characters, objects, weather, etc. until you can recreate the entire world in one lucid dream. Once you are able to recreate the exact scenario, then you can begin your story, life, or whatever it may be.

      Good luck my friend.

The sailor does not control the sea, nor does the lucid dreamer control the dream. Like a sailor, lucid dreamers manipulate or direct themselves in the larger expanse of dreaming; however, they do not control it. Lucid dreaming appears to be a co-created experience. ~Robert Waggoner

DC is 'short' for Dream Character.
